you run into a problem since the red sea exists on both sides of the sinai peninsula: the gulf of suez to the west, the gulf of aqaba to the east. Also, even if what you are saying were true, the land border between Egypt and Israel is not the red sea.
Egypt exists over Africa and Asia, with Sharh El Sheikh resting right in the middle. East of it is Africa and mainland Egypt whilst west leads on to Asia, where a tiny proportion of Egypt lies. It’s classed as African, but technically both, so to an extent, black’s right. A fail for red tbh.
Also, I’d like to know what red means when he says that Egyptians are mainly African. They’re mostly Arab (with a big Namibian minority), which, I think, means they are of Asian descendant.
He meant that within the context of using the “basically” (and not “mainly” as you wrote) to mean which continent a country is in — because that was the usage established by Red — Eqypt is “basically” in Africa, so its native inhabitants are “basically” African. Nobody, Black included, thinks that this is a sensible statement outside the specific conversation the two were having, but within the constraints of that conversation, it works fine.
Fail. Red doesn’t dispute that Egypt itself is in Africa, and is saying that essentially its inhabitants are Asian, which is true in the sense that they are Arabs. Arab = from Arabia. Arabia = in Asia.
The Sinai Peninsular is part of the African tectonic plate, and it is diverging from the Arabic plate (The Arabian Peninsula is on its own plate.) And should be able to be fairly said on that ground to exist in Africa.
even scarier, I argued with my mother about the same thing. She seemed to believe that Egypt was in one of the middle eastern countries, like Iran. I would think with all the Egyptian history being taught people would know by heart that it is from Africa.
Nope, Egypt is considered a Middle Eastern country. Though I suppose it is debatable as the Middle East is more of a political/cultural entity, not well-defined geographically like Africa/Asia.
Egypt is one of the MENA-countries (Middle-East/north-Africa). Though their culture is much alike, they’re divided in 2 continents. IMO continents have little to do with culture, and everything to do with tectonics.
So Marocco, which is in the northern Africa, is considered part of the “Middle East” even if it’s next to the Atlantean Ocean? It’s in Africa, even Egypt is in Africa, not the middle east. Or do you mean that because the people in northern parts of Africa isn’t as darkskinned as the people of the mid and south parts of Africa?
Egypt and North Africa are occasionally considered to be RELATED to the Middle East, usually when viewed in a geopolitical context, not geographical- they are not considered to be PART of the Middle East.
You missed the key word “geographical”. Geographically speaking, Egypt is in Africa. Politically/culturally speaking, Egypt is part of the Middle East.
tbh ‘middle-east’ isn’t the best way to describe that area.
A better term would be the Arab world, which consists of countries that use Arabic as a language, this includes both south-west Asia and north Africa, the predominately Islamic countries that have a lot in common
All Arab countries have strong cultural ties. Egypt has been run by a lot of people over the centuries. Since the reign of the Muhammad Ali Dynasty ended (actually not kidding) in 1952 it’s been run by Arabs. Arabs are from Saudi Arabia and are thus of Asian descent.
No one would really call Arabs “Asian” in a colloquial sense, but it’s true that they are an Asian people.
Surely the majority is “conservative,” as well as a lot of “independents” and “moderates.” But you said, “…Conservatives. And they be crazy.” And I say the same to the people who say, “…Liberals. And they be crazy.” I have to assume that people who say stuff like that live in areas where they know absolutely no one except those who have the same lock stock values as them. I have friends/family/coworkers who are atheists, Christians, liberals, conservatives, Jewish, Hindu, agnostic, don’t care about politics, don’t care about religion, straight, gay, bi, whatever, and none of them are crazy and I’m glad I get to spend time with them.
FYI, if you had to classify most Americans, even though they don’t know it, they’d be “classical liberals” aka libertarian. That’s what makes our country special.
Have a good night. And Canada is awesome. Hope you like being a Canaduck.
And the difference is… *crickets* If you believe the opposing side/values is/are “crazy” or “stupid” then the debate is over and everyone goes home all the dumber.
@Jibble Exactly. Thank you. There is extraordinary bias, in either direction, in every media outlet in America. One of the few ways to separate what is spin and what is truth is to watch both sides and compare notes. You’re not going to get the straight story out of any of them. CNN included. The people that think they will…those are the “crazy” ones.
Bottom line is this: no political party is looking out for you or the health of the nation. That includes the poor for you DNC adherents. Having been poor when I was younger, I can state that with certainty. With exceptions I could count on one hand, elected officials are looking out for themselves. The sooner some of you get over the agenda the better off we will all be.
Not all Armenians are that ignorant….but I DID have to check and make sure this wasn’t a friend of mine. Luckily they’ve been typing in ALL CAPS for the past few weeks, so it couldn’t be.
There are only a few continents. Africa is one, Asia is another, though some people call Europe and Asia a single continent called Eurasia.
The “Middle East” is a sociopolitical entity, describing a region of several countries that share many cultural attributes, but may have serious differences on religious practices, social conservatism, political structure, and so forth. The region tends to be fairly volatile, in part because in 1948 we (meaning the Allies coming out of WWI) plopped a new country in the middle.
Much of Northern Africa is considered part of “The Middle East,” though most of The Middle East is on the continent of Asia. Egypt is one such country that is in Northern Africa and is part of “The Middle East.” Libya is another; it is just west of Egypt.
I like how red says to black to not make a big deal out of it. Basically saying, don’t call me out if I’m totally fkking wrong–just let me go on believing this.
Well, Egypt is mostly an Arab nation and part of Egypt is in Asia. It is close enough to the Middle East that it does have a huge bearing on the political situations there and instability there threatens the entire region. It is kind of like Russia how it is both in Asia and Europe, it significantly alters both regions.
Egypt is partially in Asia, and Arab North African countries are for most intensive purposes considered a part of the Middle East. Most of Egypt is in Africa but the Sinai is actually a part of Asia. Of course that fact does not diminish this guy’s stupidity. Although many Asian countries has authoritarian regimes in power many others are free democratic societies. This guy calling Egypt full of Asians points to the fact that he is British, as Brits are most likely to call Arabs Asians, while Americans call Arabs Arabs and Chinese people Asians.
To be fair on the dude, Sinai a region of Egypt is in Asia and most Egyptians are Arabs (apart from the Copts, I think) which are from the Arabian Penisula which is in Asia. Their national language is Arabic which is an Asian language and their religion is Islam, also Asian.
However, the op was clearly a dumbass anyway and didn’t mean it like that.
Copts are definitely an ethnic group as well. Copt is simply the Coptic word for Egyptian. Also, 99% of the Egyptian population is Egyptian. Not Arab. When Egyptians say “Arab”, they mean the people from the Gulf states (Iraq, Saudi-Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Oman, NOT Iran).
Well Egyptians are kind of like the sand people in Iraq and and Afganistan like Arabian Knights or somethin ya know? More similiar to and Indians as in they are lighter skin, slimer build, than people in kenya or zimbabwea maybe? And desert dwellers like arabian knights’ steez are most definitely included in ‘Asian” right next to Philipinos and Malaysians!! Do *NOT* let one of them tell you they are Polynesian…cause ya f**kin right, get outta here….
Well…. that’s only one theory, although the most widely accepted. There’s also theories that say we originated Asia, or that groups evolved separately in both Africa and Asia.
People of Modern North Egypt are of Arabic descent, and came out or Arabia in the 7th-8th Century. Arabia is considered to be part of Asia.
The Pharaohs from 323 BC onwards were White; descended from the Ptolemies; which includes Cleopatra. Before and between everybody else would be considered African.
What the hell are you talking about? Came out of Arabia? I think you’re mixing up history with Stargate. There have been like a million different peoples living in the Middle East, of which only a few are prominent today. Egypt brought slaves from Nubia, where people had darker skin. They were still Egyptians. Cleopatra was still Egyptian. Everyone who are born and/or razed in Egypt is Egyptian, no matter what ethnic group they might belong to. Egypt is the cradle of f**king civilization.
Well,we have never been asians. We may geographically be in africa, but maybe some of you know,we are not afro skin type. we call ourselves arabic. And yes, unfortunately, its considered to be a middle eastern country aswell.
heh.. I only knew Egypt was part of the sector known as Middle-East. For me it always seemed independant of the rest of the continent so I never looked at it as an African country. just seems weird calling it that..
You all need a *facepalm* Egyptians are neither Asian or African, they are Egyptians. It is it’s own country. Just because Russians live in Russia that is a part of the Asia continent does not make them Asian. Retards.
Fun fact, iceland is both on the European tectonic plate, and on the American tectonic plate, still it is an European country.
Sinai is on the african tectonic plate, still it is viewed as a part of Asia.
Quick point: Regardless of the minutia of geography, tectonic plates, etc, this person is almost assuredly not smart enough to understand this argument, and his statement of Egypt being Asian has nothing to do with his knowledge of Sinai, Tectonics, culture, geography, etc. Even assuming he is right, it doesn’t change that he is a broken clock, and that’s why it’s so funny.
I have an opinion!!!
You have a dream.
Actually part of Egypt is in Asia. Look it up.
+1 point for knowing that the Arabian Peninsula is part of Asia, -10 points for thinking it includes Egypt. Egypt is in Northern Africa.
-1 million points to you for being too stupid to look it up before posting something COMPLETELY WRONG.
Egypt actually is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcontinental_countries#Egypt. Check your facts before you post something like that
Because wikipedia is such a reliable and certified source of information that can’t be changed by random online morons.
geography books can’t, so…
Um, the part of Egypt that is in Asia is Sinai. The part that has nothing going on. Don’t need to look it up, I’m an Egyptian
No you don’t.
Save yourself a lot of facepalming by not reading any further in the comments.
Black shade Win
Sooooo… the population of the US was Asian from 2000 to 2008?
One could argue that they still are Asian.
One could also argue that since all dogs are mammals, you’re a dog. One would possibly be incorrect.
Yo dawg!
what breed of dawg are you shouting to?
Caucasian. Zing!
I have an ad hominem attack on someone!!!
I have a subtract hominem attack for you!
Hey, that was clever!
And eye have an add homophone attack four ewe.
To be fair, most African leaders are pretty screwed up too.
That’s not the point, the point is someone, somewhere somewhat failed at something.

Erm actually part of Egypt is in Asia so yeah he is right…
which bit?
the part east of suez canal
Africa is bordered from the east by the red sea, not the suez canal. Saud Arabia is to the east of the red sea, Egypt is to the west of the red sea.
you run into a problem since the red sea exists on both sides of the sinai peninsula: the gulf of suez to the west, the gulf of aqaba to the east. Also, even if what you are saying were true, the land border between Egypt and Israel is not the red sea.
He means Sinai
Egypt exists over Africa and Asia, with Sharh El Sheikh resting right in the middle. East of it is Africa and mainland Egypt whilst west leads on to Asia, where a tiny proportion of Egypt lies. It’s classed as African, but technically both, so to an extent, black’s right. A fail for red tbh.
Also; I like pudding.
Also, I’d like to know what red means when he says that Egyptians are mainly African. They’re mostly Arab (with a big Namibian minority), which, I think, means they are of Asian descendant.
*a big NUBIAN minority
He meant that within the context of using the “basically” (and not “mainly” as you wrote) to mean which continent a country is in — because that was the usage established by Red — Eqypt is “basically” in Africa, so its native inhabitants are “basically” African. Oh, and what part is that? didnt new Egypt was divided in 2 or more pieces :O
Sinai, to the East of the Suez Canal
even scarier, I argued with my mother about the same thing. She seemed to believe that Egypt was in one of the middle eastern countries, like Iran. I would think with all the Egyptian history being taught people would know by heart that it is from Africa.
Umm, northern Africa is considered part of the “Middle East”. Your mom is much smarter than you.
ummm, Northern *Africa* is still *Africa*. The middle east is made up of Asian countries.
Nope, Egypt is considered a Middle Eastern country. Though I suppose it is debatable as the Middle East is more of a political/cultural entity, not well-defined geographically like Africa/Asia.
thank you, the “middle east” is not a continent
this
What an asshat.
You should try looking it up “Middle East” sometime, then you wouldn’t fail like that.
I fail too at grammar.
Googled middle east: Egypt is in it.
Egypt is one of the MENA-countries (Middle-East/north-Africa). Though their culture is much alike, they’re divided in 2 continents. IMO continents have little to do with culture, and everything to do with tectonics.

Although, funnily enough Muhammad Ali himself (also not kidding – no relation to the boxer obviously) was probably Albanian.
Yep, the last Albanian Turk dynasty over Egypt that will likely ever exist I have to guess.
Ummmm, no its not?
Perhaps she watches Fox News.

It’s okay, you’re still the second smartest person (next to me) in this discussion.
Skkuse’es mee !!..
thank you, I don’t understand people’s skim grasp on geography vs. culture/politics
So are we at war with Eurasia, or East Asia? Which is Allied with us? What does two plus two equal?
we’re at war with Eastasia, don’t you know? we’ve always been at war with Eurasia, you really should pay more attention to politics
I don’t think anyone is at war with an entire geopolitical region at the moment.
That’s what you think
Ha, an entire geopolitical region? No one’s that stupid! We’re at war with “TEEERRRRR” which is much more defined and feasible…
I like how red says to black to not make a big deal out of it. Basically saying, don’t call me out if I’m totally fkking wrong–just let me go on believing this.

DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Well he was 20% correct (or so). Part of Egypt IS on the Asian Continent:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egypt
It’s not the only country like that:

AFRICA
It’s the new Asia
Let’s call it New Afia!
Or just Afia?

Egypt is partially in Asia, and Arab North African countries are for most intensive purposes considered a part of the Middle East. Most of Egypt is in Africa but the Sinai is actually a part of Asia. This guy calling Egypt full of Asians points to the fact that he is British, as Brits are most likely to call Arabs Asians, while Americans call Arabs Arabs and Chinese people Asians.
“Most INTENTS AND PURPOSES.” You’re welcome.
THANK YOU! I get so worked up when people do that.
“Brits are most likely to call Arabs Asians”
Are we? I’ve never come across this.
“while Americans call Arabs Arabs and Chinese people Asians.”
We call Arabs Arabs and the Chinese Asian. You know why? Because they are.
Brits are also more likely to call American dumbasses, you know why? Because they are
You know what I call people who use American slang to insult Americans?
TRAITORS
Tbh i usually hear arabs being called pakis and anyone from the far east being called chinese
“for most intensive purposes”- How intense are these purposes?
Did I ever tell you about the time I was in the Intents and Care Unit?
This intense:

We call people from the Indian subcontinent Asians. They’re emphatically not Arabs.
no kidding!
I thought it was considered as North Africa. . .
Actually, the Sinai Peninsula is in Asia and it’s part of Egypt so…
What about the bit of Egypt that’s in Asia? Not that this post suggests either of them were aware of it, but still.
Well all religions that I can think of are Asian by this criterion; so that doesn’t help.
Meh
Copts is a religion, not an ethnic origin. The greatest minority in Egypt is Namibian.
Shooot
I keep saying Namibian where I should be saying Nubian ¬¬
Copts are definitely an ethnic group as well. Copt is simply the Coptic word for Egyptian. Also, 99% of the Egyptian population is Egyptian. Not Arab. When Egyptians say “Arab”, they mean the people from the Gulf states (Iraq, Saudi-Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, UAE, Oman, NOT Iran).

Wow. Just, wow.
Bleezy’s just trollin’.
Bowwe’s deeppliey….wurk onda speellinges..
you tell ‘im, drongo.
All those “A” continents are basically the same.
Yup. Like America.
Europe ftw?
Truly, “buh da” is the rallying cry of reasonable, intelligent discourse. Truly.
Haha
Racism, you’re doing it wrong.
Arab people originated on the Arabian Peninsula, and migrated from there. So they are, in a sense, (West) Asians.
Well Monodon beat me to it, but this ^
Homo Sapiens originated in Africa. So all modern humans are, in a sense, Africans.
^ This
Well…. that’s only one theory, although the most widely accepted. There’s also theories that say we originated Asia, or that groups evolved separately in both Africa and Asia.
http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/201503/early_human_remains_challenge_out_of.html
Just sayin’ it’s possible we could all be Asian too.
But wouldn’t we all be better at math, then?Egyptians aren’t Arabs though. They’re Egyptian. Nor did the Arabs migrate to Egypt. They conquered it.
Nice conversation everyone. But honestly, how is this racist?
That’s what I was wondering too.
i’d say it’s ignorant not racist but ho hum!
Yep, I was gonna post ignorant red is ignorant… :/ Still, what an awful moron.

Cleopatra was Macedonian, as it goes.
You mean, as opposed to being white? Gee.
Some might argue that Iraq is the cradle of civilization (Mesopotamia and all that).
^ This.
The entire French navy was razed during the Battle of the Nile, but they were not Egyptian.
Cairo… That’s in Egypt.
Cairo is in Illinois. The mayor or Grand Poohank or something is named Mudbrick. I think they are trying to vote him out on a landslide or something.
There’s a Cairo in NY too. And Maine.
Well,we have never been asians. We may geographically be in africa, but maybe some of you know,we are not afro skin type. we call ourselves arabic. And yes, unfortunately, its considered to be a middle eastern country aswell.
OMG, you have the interwebs?
You do know that some Egyptians live abroad, right?
I’ve never called myself Arabic, nor African for that matter. Just Egyptian.
heh.. I only knew Egypt was part of the sector known as Middle-East. For me it always seemed independant of the rest of the continent so I never looked at it as an African country. just seems weird calling it that..
Looks like someone got faileducated…..
OH MY GOD, Egypt is an Arab nation. Seriously, retarded people.
You all need a *facepalm* Egyptians are neither Asian or African, they are Egyptians. It is it’s own country. Just because Russians live in Russia that is a part of the Asia continent does not make them Asian. Retards.
Exactly
so why are people from China called Asians then? Retard.
I thought Russians were Europeans
Or, you know, Egyptian…
Neither red, nor black, has obviously been to Egypt.
I’ve met people who’ve been to Switzerland on skiing holidays for years and thought it was near the north pole. Stupidity knows no bounds.
It’s somewhat funny because part of Egypt is in Asia, so you could be Egyptian and Asian
Egyptians are Caucasians and African.
Hurrah for the american education system!
This, THIS is why the rest of the world hates us.
*walks like an Egyptian*

That’s not racist, it’s just stupid, really REALLY stupid.
…OH SHI-
Ive met thousands of egyptians here in duabi, they pretty afro alright, arab at best but defnitely not asian
Egypt is on the African continent. Therefore, Egypt itself is in Africa, the people do not necessarily have to be African.
