  1. Totto says:

So.. the point was? I got lost in french fries..

    • durp says:

some people on facebook belive changing their facebook pictures to a cartoon they liked, will end bullying and other such topics.
      well played sir, well played.

      • Totto says:

I’ll hurp to you Sir Durp. You are most likely correct and now I get it. Thank you and have a very durp day further.

      • Valek27 says:

I thought that it was just to show you cared?

        • Lytrigian says:

          tl;dr

        • Alfie says:

          tl;dr
          AND DIED.

        • Adelei says:

The facebook cartoon profile trend did cause an increase in donations to child abuse charities. There are better ways to raise awareness and help causes, but at least it was more productive than:

“Goin’ to work today, I hate my job.”

          “Hit me up, man!”

          “I’m at the mall :)

When I was a kid, I was abused by my dad, and also by peers. What was worse about being abused by peers was that it was in plain sight of my teachers, and they did absolutely nothing to help me. They just watched. To me, that’s worse than nobody being around. At least with Facebook posts like that, it gets people to think about it, if even for a minute. To me, that’s better than being totally ignored.

      • TV says:

That was for “Awareness”. Like “Remind everyone to be afraid of rapists”.

This would work if it were “Remind everyone that people are hungry”.
But not “Now nobody is hungry”.
They didn’t even get the insult right.

        Idiots.

      • Octofan says:

actually, it’s supposed to help make people aware of a problem, so that people will volunteer or contribute or talk about it.

      • TheDoc says:

wtf man? it isnt because of bullying that people changed their pics into cartoon… its just for reminding us of our childhood :)

        • Karma says:

fail. you need to google that again.

          • ChagrinnedGoat says:

Fail. Originally, December was just “Change your profile picture to your favorite Pokemon” month. Then this year it started going around to have people just change it to any cartoon character for the month. Then somebody added the whole child abuse awareness.

    • skeptic says:

Point was: silly facebook slacktivism bash.

  2. tooti says:

starve the pricks and give them condoms so they wont over populate and cause the same prob again

  3. htbaafky says:

Cutting food donations will surely end world hunger. It all makes sense!

  4. Justme says:

How to end world hunger: Let all the hungry people starve to death. No more hungry people. Problem solved.

    • Thom says:

“Let” them starve to death? Look, if you want anything done right, you gotta do it yourself. So everyone, get off your lazy arses and grab a weapon.

  5. Danifilth says:

If they dont feed people, they’ll die, so there wont be more world hunger anymore?

I can’t believe it was that simple… xD

  6. scientist says:

Sounds like a case of troll-science.
    Problem, starving children?

  7. Melanisia says:

It’s the facebook awareness thing that people do. Change your picture to a cartoon from your childhood to raise awareness of child abuse. State the color of your bra in your status to raise awareness of breast cancer. It’s just little things meant to raise awareness, not meant to cure or fix anything by itself, and this is making fun of it.

    • Paul says:

The problem is that “raising awareness” does absolutely nothing, other than make people feel better about themselves. If the only thing those newly “aware” people do is change their profile pic, but don’t actually contribute time/money/resources to fighting the problem, they’ve done nothing. And the vast majority of these “change your profile pic to ____” things don’t even provide a link to show people where they can donate, let alone ask them to.

      • x_x says:

        What he said.

      • red velvet says:

This. This so much. Things white people like: awareness. Because it means they don’t have to get off their fat asses and actually change anything.

        • Thugaim says:

Don’t be racist. Yeah, you can be racist towards white people, too.

          • tooti says:

im half aboriginal and half english i cant be racist i see it how it is and condoms would solve both the over population and starvation they are facing as well as help in getting rid of the aids virus

          • Non-Sequitur says:

            (general comment, nothing personal)

What’s racist against whites? Both whites and blacks are as ineffectual as the other about making social change towards equality, but equally willing to complain about the lack of it as they strive to an alleged genetic superiority with subversive political-maneuvering.

Facebook protests are as meaningless as the old homeless guy holding the sandwich-board proclaiming, “The end is near”, or something similar.

Try being significant in the world instead of updating your FB status about how you are doing nothing. Or are you just suburban white-trash?

I had a couple beers and have said my peace. Let the opinion spew forthwith….

            • I r smart says:

You almost won the interets…valid attempt.

            • TO nonSequitur says:

Dude! I think you said your piece not your “peace”. This is not a wedding where you have to “forever hold your peace”.

              Peace*: You’re retarded!

*yeah that was sarcasm for PS coz he’s retarded

            • Michelle says:

By singling out white people, they made a racist statement. It wasn’t what they said, it was the group they chose to single out.

Now, how did I know that this simple Failblog joke would suddenly make a bunch of people suddenly lose their sense of humor? :)

              • red velvet says:

It was classism, if anything. Chill out. White people deserve to be knocked down a knotch.

Also, lol at “racism against white people”. They’re already top of the food chain.

                • Justice says:

White people deserve to be knocked down a notch? What about white people who worked hard and have no prejudicial bones in their body?

People with reasoning like yours is what’s causing this nation to slowly die.

                • Brenna says:

“White,” isn’t a class, Einstein. It’s a race. It’s racism. And you, sir, are a racist. And quite possibly a troll.

                  • mistresshate says:

                    white isn’t a race.
                    it’s a colour.
                    black isn’t a race either.
Italian is a race. Norwegian is a race. Egyptian is a race. Brazilian is a race. They’re dark and white, but those are colours. One colour could is made up of hundreds of races.

            • ThatDarnCat says:

Better to be suburban white trash with a job than urban non-white trash that lives off my taxes.

            • red velvet says:

Whites are top of the “food chain”, so to speak. To apply the definition of “racism” to white people is just laughable.

People need to save their outrage for things that actually matter.

              • Duaner says:

Just like humor, either it’s all acceptable or nothing is. If you’re saying that one type of racism is just fine, then all are by relation. So, maybe you’re not racist, but you are an a$$hole.

                • Brenna says:

                  I love you.

                • Odin says:

I agree with the fact that prejudice is a gray line, however I think that you have skewed views as far as the whole “classism” thing goes. I mean there are different classes in America, but they aren’t based on race, sometimes yes it can be generational depending on the situation, but for the most part where you go in life, and how much money you make, and your class is decided by how hard you work, and that is the beauty of capitalism.

              • Anna says:

The subject you obviously need to study is called Sociology. Try it, you may find the world makes a lot more sense suddenly.

          • red velvet says:

            I am white, you troll.

          • dolphingurl says:

exactly. facebopok isnt only ‘white people’. dont generalize. how do u know if each awareness idea is set up by a ‘white person’? hmmmm….. and btw, obama aint white

        • lolol says:

          lol..

          >white people
          >fat asses

Where the hell do you live?

        • MmeZeeZee says:

Bwahaha. Watch or he’ll steal this one.

      • joanne says:

so if one person checked there breast because they were made AWARE of breast cancer say on a fb status and they found a lump…maybe thats one life saved. so maybe AWARNESS works for some people……..

        • Remac says:

That doesn’t necessarily mean that they have never heard of exams. Many women know of them and don’t perform them as often as they should, or at that reminder could possibly find something that would have gotten worse later. It’s a slim chance, I know, but the chance is still there. If it does happen that one life is saved, certainly that is worth a newsfeed of annoying-as-hell posts.

      • neoritter says:

And that’s why my profile picture is a Pokemon! :D

      • Rachey says:

YES!!! You should run for office. You’re the smartest person on the internet!

    • NO says:

Yeah, telling bra colors does really nothing except entertain pedophiles, rapist, dogs, maniacs, drug addicts, stalkers, etc.

  8. tooti says:

love it danifilth someone who has the same ideals as me they got themselves in the mess they should fix it like we all have to fix our own problems why dump it on other countries that should be taking better care of thier citizens than sending millions over seas to feed a clothe ppl that really dont give a about our morals anyway

  9. Jo says:

I think it’s more about that stupid “change your profile picture to a cartoon and stop child abuse” bulls**t

  10. nUmB@ 1 P!Mp bOi says:

Lol no1 cares bout u nerdzzzz

  11. liz says:

Apparently it was a pedophile that made the cartoon child awareness idea.

  12. Shaun says:

I don’t get it, so who’s the black guy?

  13. Face says:

I love that term- slacktivism. Changing your picture to a cartoon does nootthhinnggg to prevent child violence. Awareness? I’m aware that all of my friends are now cartoons. Now, maybe if you had changed your profile picture to a beaten wounded child, we would think DANG, we should do something about this. But really, if you want to prevent child violence, donate to AA, planned parenthood, or the CPS. Changing your profile picture just says “Hey, yeah.. hitting kids is bad. And I really like this cartoon!”

    • Anna says:

lol I found your post pretty funny and yes posting a cartoon picture doesn’t really do much to prevent the issue… sure it makes people aware of childhood abuse… but doesn’t solve the problem at all… I’m very sure that there would be more help if people were to post a picture of an abused child rather than a cartoon… so in conclusion I agree with Face…

  14. Philosopher says:

Wow. I *wish* the government would limit its activism to changing FB profiles.

Keep us safe from violence, theft, and fraud, and let us do the rest ourselves.

    • John says:

So YOU’LL be telling China not to put lead based paint in their toys which they sell en masse to the states? It’s not fraud, it’s just good-old cheap-labour conservatism, in action.

      • slaggingham says:

I just won’t be buying cheap Chinese toys. It’s not activism, it’s simply Using-my-own-brain-so-the-government-doesn’t-have-to-do-everything-for-me-like-I’m-some-kinda-infant-non-Liberalism.

        • Snark says:

. . . where do you find toys that aren’t Chinese, even not cheap? If I only bought American made goods I’d have no furniture, no trash cans, no storage . . . and no toys for my son (and not because I’m cheap). Sarsly – whar u find dis “American” stuf for sael? About the only things I can readily go to the store and buy American are either alcoholic or eggplants.

      • BForBandana says:

Change your profile picture to a can of paint to raise awareness for toys with a lead-based paint!

      • Philosopher says:

I would expect people not to buy such toys. If they want to endanger their children to save a little cash, that’s a different problem that doesn’t even involve China.

    • not_write says:

      This.

    • Havok says:

      This, but…

      “Avenge violence, theft, and fraud…”

Because really, there’s nothing the government can do to stop people from doing those things.

      • Philosopher says:

True. I mean, stricter punishment and chance of getting caught does serve as a deterrent, but eventually the crime reduction isn’t worth the price.

Now, less gun control, so anyone and everyone might be carrying a concealed weapon… that’s a pretty good deterrent from violence, at least.

  15. lionh3art says:

this is “change-your-profile-pictures-to-cartoons-to-stop-child-abusing” all over again. i don’t do slacktivism.

  16. mitanni says:

But the real question is: how many people donated to Save the Children or cancer research as a consequence of people changing their facebook profiles in order to feel holier than thou? If there were no slactivism would people donate to spite the slactivists?

  17. ThatDarnCat says:

I get the fail. People thing that Barry Soetoro is actually trying to fix problems. He’s only in office to “put America in it’s place.” Just ask him.

  18. lol says:

Does it seem like a fail because it said “Facebook for iPhone” on “Barrack Obama’s” Post?

    • David says:

You got to it before I did. Obama is widely known for his love of Blackberry. This “post” would never read Facebook for iPhone.

  19. Bree says:

The “awareness” excuse is so misguided. For one to spread awareness, they need to actually give people the FACTS, not just say “I like it on the stairs.” Even the “97% of people won’t re-post this status, re-post if you know someone with depression/cancer/AIDS/hypotonia/red hair” statuses aren’t REAL awareness. How about saying, “Hey, did you know that 100 women in Canada will have died by the end of this week form breast cancer alone? Here’s a website on how to self-exam. Now get out to a doctor.”
All modern “awareness” attempts do is show that YOU’RE a nice person who cares about breast cancer/AIDS/child abuse/constipation. It’s extremely self-congratulating.

  20. slaggingham says:

So what picture do I put in my profile if I DON’T care?

  21. joman says:

I just have to wonder why Facebook allows fake barak obama and UN accounts.

  22. Stormy says:

I still don’t see why people sound so outraged with this ‘awareness’ trend on fb. My only guess it they feel entitled to belittle other people’s good (even if misjudged) intentions. Especially since I’m sure most people talking crap don’t do anything to help anyone. You can cry all you want about how posting something on FB takes away from actually going out and making a difference. But it doesn’t. These people aren’t choosing between posting something on FB or physical involvement they are choosing between posting on FB or DOING NOTHING.

Would it be better for everyone to go out and actually do something? Hells ya. But if people wanted to, they would. It’s not like people think, ‘Oh instead of going out to raise money I’ll change my profile picture to a cartoon.’ IT’s more like, ‘I might as well do this, better then doing nothing.’

So relax. If you care so much lead by example.

    • Adelei says:

The Facebook trend DID cause an increase in donations to charities. You should not assume that everybody just posted that status and did nothing. There were many that donated. Everyone just assumes participators just sat on their asses, but they have no proof.

The cartoon thing didn’t even start out as an awareness chain, it was just an event. Many participated because they just wanted to show what their favorite childhood cartoons were.

Now this is not directed at you, but people just jump at the chance to make fun of other people over petty things, attempting to be witty.

  23. Charles says:

Actually food donations exacerbate many developing nations problems. Unless its immediate relief from an event that’s destroyed crops and food stores, aid causes more harm than good by destroying demand, and therefore the economy.

    • Philosopher says:

      This.

      • The thisER says:

        This.

          • Remac says:

But more to the point–the question “But how?”

By reviving and developing agricultural systems that WORK in individual developing nations’ different climates, soils, etc., as opposed to this GM-exports-cash crop-Green Revolution fiasco.
By bringing biodiversity back into our own agricultural system.
By growing our food products more for human consumption and not so much for biofuels and feeding livestock–which in turn feed fewer people, take far more energy and water to raise, and provide more nutritional energy through consumption of energy down the food chain.

            Just some ideas.

            • Meatatarian says:

              But I don’t like being a vegan :’(

I’ve done it, it’s not fun.

              • MmeZeeZee says:

You know they’re donating grains on purpose to disrupt development.

Confessions of an Economic Hit Man (http://www.amazon.com/Confessions-Economic-Hit-John-Perkins/dp/0452287081/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1292359246&sr=8-1)

Read it and weep. Don’t become a vegan, just vote, write letters, run for office, and call your international charity of choice to make sure they are supporting sustainable development projects like microfinance and institutional capacity building through training of civil society organizations.

It’s really not that hard. Oh, wait, it is actually pretty hard.

              • Charles says:

We don’t need to be vegan to supply enough food, raising animals is a very reasonable way to recycle food not fit human consumption, putting land to work that’s not suitable for crops, and providing an easy source of protein.

The problem comes from factory farmed meat that require large amounts of good crop land to be taken up producing animal feed.

  24. Captain Obvious says:

    OMG,

operator! connect me to the pentagon

  25. Bobvilarules says:

Everyone knows Obama has a Blackberry

  26. Irene says:

Sadly, the most effective move he’s made since taking office.

  27. H says:

I changed my profile pic to a Pokemon… since “Change your profile pic to a Pokemon!!” month came before “Save the starving children with pictures of fictional characters!” month.

So I don’t even qualify as a slacktivist, I’m just a dork who likes Pokemon.

  28. Paul says:

This is a fail for Failbook…

The practice of food donation to the third world has been questioned. This is due to the fact that by giving food donations, the farmers in developing nations are undercut, and cannot make money for their crops. Not to mention that the population continues to increase, which would only require more food donations from first world countries.

  29. qwestion says:

Cut food donations and let the bastards die. No more hunger and we’ll even save some of africas delicate nature when theres less people destroying it. And overpopulation!

  30. Ignia says:

I believe the correct answer to the first question is:

“Because the Republicans said they would finally stop filibustering every single f**king thing in the Senate if I did this and gave their rich supporters a tax cut”

  31. Peegies says:

Post a picture of pedobear or homer choking bart ^_^

  32. WHAT THE HELL IS THAT says:

To the people saying starving the hungry people: I’m not sure if someone has already bought this up, but ending world hunger is not that simple. It is mostly the undeveloped countries of the world who are starving, but it is also them who will work and sell their crops for much cheaper prices, preventing them from being able to feed their whole population. If these countries were to die, other countries would have to take their place to allow the countries with more money and power to thrive.

For some people to thrive, others must suffer; or this is the way it seems.
