Yeah, I agree, that’s not a win. As someone who both survived a mother who wanted her aborted and had two pregnancies “fail” this is not appropriate humor. Her son clearly agrees.
Ditto. It’s a pretty awful thing to say, even if it is a joke.
At the very least it should be in person when you can hear tone of voice and not in text where it’s harder to tell that someone is joking. But I would NEVER say that, not even as a joke. It’s just awful.

Meh, come on caretrolls, parents are allowed to make jokes like that to their kids if they want to. Why brothers and sisters do it all the time as well, particularly in big families like my own where limitied resources and attention from our folks mean near constant fighting.
For example, recently I was arguing with 3 of my little sisters about who was an accident and who wasn’t, Mum just overheard us and said “you were all accidents, I wanted puppies instead but all I got was you lousy kids, now shut the f**k up, dinner’s ready”
It was meant in good humour and none of us were scarred by it though we do enjoy making “My mum’s so fat” jokes these as retaliation (she really is enormous)

Well, that’s why I’m of the opinion that facebook isn’t really the greatest place for such a joke. With text, tone of voice is completely lost and something meant as a lighthearted joke can easily be taken more seriously.
i don’t think that the venue matters, after all she IS their mom and being family they’d know that they were joking.

No, the fact that it shows an “unlike” button, means that the person who captured this, had already clicked “Like”. It gives you the option to Unlike anything you Liked. No dislike button yet

No, one of the two people who ‘liked’ it was the one who posted it. There is no unlike, unless you’ve already liked something. Then, you’re given the option to undo (unlike) your previous decision. You can see the thumbs up symbol, which means they liked it.

So, seeing as we already know that the person who submitted must also have liked the Mum comment, the evidence suggests that Melinda, in fact, liked it??
Now that just doesn’t make any sense to me??
UNLESS the Mum comment was actually directed at Ben? (i.e. Ben and Mike are brothers, and Mum really likes football, so doesn’t like the fact that Ben doesn’t like football). However, looking at the length of the blacked out section, I’d say Ben and Mike do not have the same last name, which means they are less likely (although it’s not impossible) for them to have the same mother.
All in all – I’m confused.

Lighten up, guys. If Melinda is the daughter and she sent it in, it appears that she wasn’t too offended by it. Maybe this mother and her children have that kind of relationship where they make innapropriate jokes like that…my mom and I do. Just a thought.
Wow people, get a grip. I can’t picture my Mom saying this to me, but I wouldn’t be insulted if she did. You don’t know their relationship, if this is the Mothers sense of humor, I’m going to take a wild guess that the kid already knows her Mom was joking. I’m sure there is a strong sense of love there for a Mom to be secure enough to say something like this over her offsprings facebook page.
Mike seemed genuinely shocked. If he is also Susan’s child, I guess that tells us a little bit about what HE thinks is/isn’t appropriate. Anyone could have sent that in, not necessarily Melinda.

We know that it cannot be ben, susan, Mike, or Melinda because there is no option to remove a comment. But we DO know that the submitter had to have been a person who “liked” that 1 comment because there’s an option to unlike.
Because if it was Melinda, she could have removed any of those comments, and if it was one of the commenters, they could have removed their OWN comments.
There’s also an outside possibility that Ben is Susan’s son and the target of her remark, not Melinda, who may not be a relation at all.
It seems VT fans can’t take a hit. But then again, they were the only team in the top 25 to take a loss.

My vote is Melinda submitted it, because of the lock icon showing under her status. There is also the unlike option, and it’s liked by 2 people. Based on the lock and the unlike showing up, Melinda liked the comment and submitted it.
Come on! You can’t get sensitive over this. Chances are they are a family with a healthy, if somewhat offbeat, sense of humor. If you’re a member of a family like that, you know when someone is joking. The response, to me at least, suggests not a reaction to what was said, but where it was said. They seem to get it. Stop worrying so much.
