  4. noelle says:

    what does ‘über’ mean ?

    • Phantom Ninja says:

“Über” is the German word for “about” and also for “over” (as in “above”). This definition comes from my German to English dictionary, btw, not GoogleTranslate.

I bugs me so much whenever someone uses it when speaking English to exaggerate something. *bangs head on computer desk repeatedly* A[MOWIEMIVAWE-

      • SomeDudeFromAustria says:

German is my mother tongue, and I can assure you that “über” can be used to exaggerate something. It’s very rare though and has to be used properly, like in “überteuert” (overpriced) or “übergroß” (oversized). You can’t just take any adjective and throw “über” in front of it, so something like “übersexy” doesn’t exist – in German! In English it seems to be fine though, it’s become common slang on the internet, so don’t be so über picky ;p

        • SomeDudeFromGermany says:

Wirklich? Sie benutzen “über” auch im Englischen? Wie hat sich das denn eingeschlichen? :-)

    • Mr.RandomBok says:

      “Super”

  5. DitzyDizzy says:

And she won’t apologize for the restraining order.

  6. Notreallyreallyjesus says:

  7. tenji says:

not really a fail. People say it often. ‘i like your hair, i want to touch it’
its not an uncommon thing. it just shows that this guy probably thinks hes ‘So cool and random!21321!’

  8. noelle says:

    what does ‘über’ mean ?

    • Icilio says:

      “super” well, kinda

      • Phantom Ninja says:

NO. “Über” is the German word for “about” and for “over” (as in “above”). It does NOT mean “super” and shouldn’t be used for exaggerating in the English language.

Sorry, but every time someone uses “über” to exaggerate something, I get a bit OCD about it.

(I got that definition of “über” from my German to English dictionary, btw. Not from GoogleTranslate or anywhere else on the Internet.)

        • Mr.RandomBok says:

          Yeah…… it means “super”, buddy.

          • well says:

Nope, you wouldn’t use it in German in a sentence like the one in the pic.

“über” can mean “about”, “across”, “above” and “more than”, but is NOT used in conjunction with something like “sexy”.

            • Mr.RandomBok says:

But it’s used as “super” in this context (“super” means “over” btw).
And when a large amount of people use a word in a slightly different way, that new meaning might become the right meaning. That’s how languages evolve.
And “über” is used in several languages as “super”…uhm, which is cool I guess.
ps: German is one of our national languages, so that doesn’t count for a thing ’cause I don’t speak it!

            • SomeDudeFromGermany says:

Actually it is used in german for the same reason, like exaggerations. It’s kinda slangy, but accepted.

          • Phantom Ninja says:

            Yeah…… it means “over/about,” buddy.

  9. KK says:

I didn’t even know people still said “uber.”

  10. Hobson's Choice says:

Makes you wonder if he’s used the wrong preposition in that first sentence. Maybe ‘on’ is what he meant…

  11. Wilson says:

“Play with”? Man up and pull it.

  12. I have had much stranger comments made toward me! I don’t know why the person was made so uncomfortable. LOL

  13. revoche says:

Über can actually used as “super”.

  14. Ki says:

…God these people are on my friends list.

    I’ve seen this comment.

I’m so mocking that dude more for this.
