There are several things I don’t understand about this. Is this person a relation to the deceased? – otherwise, why would he mention their death? If so, why just mention it in passing? And how come his last name is the the same as the name of the event? – is it even a personal profile?
People are dead/injured. They used their status update to express “sympathy” for the deaths/injuries, but got those sympathies out of the way quickly so that they could get to the REALLY important stuff – advertising their next event.
“They” meaning the speedway where the crash happened. I totally agree, tasteless. They should have had two separate announcements, at the very least. This is as bad as those businesses that put ads in the newspaper, where there are obituaries! Have some respect for the dead, ffs.
Some redneck speedway in Missouri is more concerned with advertising than injured and dead people. I don’t understand why these people are so surprised at that.
I agree that his/her timing was poor when it came to the advertisement, but what the crap is with saying he’s/she’s “the worst human being on the planet.” ? I think that insult would be more credible if the poster were responsible for the death of 1 person and condition of 2 others.
Worst human being on the planet?? Um, not even close. Yes it was in poor taste, but that doesn’t make them worthy of being the worst person on the planet.
How is this offensive or even tacky? The poster is a business, whatever speedway. If someone dies at WalMart, they don’t pull all their TV spots and advertising. If the Speedway is talking about injuries and deaths, chances are it happened on the track, in which case, that’s what you get for participating in such a stupid “sport.” SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY!
I have to agree with you, here. I really found nothing at all offensive with this post. I mean, the business isn’t related to the deceased. I doubt that the facebook poster was even FRIENDS with the deceased. It’s probably nice that they bothered to mention it at all. I really just don’t get what the big deal is with this. :/ If you friend a business on facebook, you should expect advertisements.
I suppose the only thing that would have been better is if they did not post the deaths at all. But really, this isn’t that offensive.
Although, in my opinion, that last comment was a fail in itself. Sure, the post was tacky and tasteless, and just downright awful, but I hardly think whoever wrote it is “the worst human being on the planet”. There are much, MUCH worse things a person could do than this…
Jup, suddenly people who torture others to death to please their deviant sexual urges or dictators who empoverish a nation and kill millions while doing it to ensure their own might don’t look that bad now that I know there are people who make untactful comments on deceased individuals.
It is disrespectful, definitely, but I do think that mentioning them in the status was at least commendable, a lot of people would disregard the fact that people got injured or passed away as these things happen all the time and the track accept no responsibility for anyone who gets injured, it could also be seen as ”bad business.” So with that in mind, I personally don’t see the offence and think the ”worst person on earth” comment was stupid even if the poster was a little insensitive in his approach.
It could be worse. Below is a genuine tombstone inscription that kinda put it into perspective for me…
“Sacred to the memory of
my husband John Barnes
who died January 3, 1803
His comely young widow, aged 23, has
many qualifications of a good wife, and
yearns to be comforted.”
Strange no one has pointed this out, but looking at the apology posted on the raceway’s fb page, and looking at the strange formatting of the “offensive” post, it appears the person posting accidentally combined 2 posts that were meant to be separate.
“Passed out” means the person fainted or fell unconscious somehow. “Passed away” means the person died. Read it again; the status uses the phrase “passed away.” And when it is coupled with the mention of two other people “recovering” and in “stable condition,” terms that usually, if not always, refer to the state of injuries and bring connotations of hospitals, AND the fact that this was posted by a locale for a very dangerous sport… I would say that the context lends itself to the first person’s death.
no, you would assume and i did read it in that context. but i myself have used stable condition and recovering as terms to do with a night out. and yes, i know the difference between passed away and passed out, that doesnt mean someone couldnt make an error with their typing
So you said something to the effect of “Too bad [dead husband's name] is dead. Now… you all should come visit [place where husband was killed], it’s great fun for the whole family!” If so, um… the family might be justified.
Pretty sure you’re a troll, though. The “I do not believe in organized religion or cults” response to the “witch” accusation is a little too dumb.
Actually, what I said was something along the lines of, I will be continuing Bill’s business, so if you need wholesale you can still call me. I wanted to live in his memory by continuing his legacy, but it didn’t come off that way. Also, they did fancy me a witch, and I don’t believe in fairy tales. You think I’m a troll? Ha. I wish I was, I wish this hadn’t been part of my life. I wish I had my husband back. =) Have a nice day.
Half-tempted to flag this as “offensive”…
lol! GO FOR IT!
Only a fool takes offense where none is given.
s**t probably got hacked
hi mom!

Here’s your speedway… if you scroll down a bit you can see a reference to the post but the post itself has been deleted.
i think they should un-blur where it was from
I agree.
It’s Double X Speedway…I was bored and found it looking at the profile thumbnail

I would assume it is some sort of promotional profile, and the dead/injured are drivers who were probably in some sort of crash or two.
This page wasn’t hard to find on Facebook. The person apologized and put up a more tasteful status listing the men’s conditions.
i don’t get it…

Pretty cold alright… yikes.

thats just sad
It’s Double X Speedway. Happened in late July, though this status update has been removed.
it is ‘double x speedway’ on facebook. you’re all welcome.
Apparently they took their page down, or at least made it non-searchable.
No, it’s still there. I posted a link to it within minutes of this post being put up.
Thank you.
is the page gone? i cant find it

Missouri? Did you mean Mississippi?
No, he meant Missouri. Where did you get Mississippi from? The speedway is in Missouri.
No, I meant Missouri. You know, where the Double-X Speedway is located. Does it hurt to be that retarded?

Ain’t no rednecks in Missouri.

double-x-speedway on facebook. apparently, they have such accidents once a week, that was not the only half-dead person mentioned happily in a status.

Gotta get paid.
Yup.
They could’ve at least posted about the deaths, waited a while, then did the ad.
they took the original post down but this is the right page.

Wow.

Typical Red State Republican hillbilly NASCAR sh*t…
(I am somewhat surprised those hicks didn’t put their “casualty status list” AFTER announcing the next race though.)

Depending on John’s sense of humor, he may have asked for that to be written. ;P I know I want something interesting to be written on mine when I die.

faaaairly certain they meant passed out as in whoever went had a wicked time. juuuust sayin’ read it again in that context

Glad they told him off.
Sounds like a great form of advertising to me… “Who’s gonna die next?! You’ll have to be there next SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY to find out!”
So you said something to the effect of “Too bad [dead husband's name] is dead. Now… you all should come visit [place where husband was killed], it’s great fun for the whole family!” If so, um… the family might be justified.
