    falling for scams= fail.

This site is for fail enforcement, not fail prevention.

    • Curtis says:

But it’s always great to see a few less “Shocking video of Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus turning into mutant zombies!” on the Failbook wall.

      • gilbird says:

my favorite one is the “OMG! Miley Cyrus and justin Beiber Making out! Video here!”

        • anony mouse says:

My absolute favorite is when I get a private message from someone i hardly talk to (ever). i got one from a guy I know to be strait saying something about “we could be soulmates! click this link to find out!”, then, a few seconds later, exact same message from someone else. try to message them back, and they’re suddenly offline, as if they never logged in themselves. scary, huh?

  2. gilbird says:

I think that its so Obvious that its a Scam, that people
fail if they think its actually gonna work. i mean, COME ON PEOPLE!!! smarten up a bit!

    • whatwhattheoriginal says:

Agreed! I get these jamming up my newsfeed and I just want to slap my friends for being so f’n stupid! And don’t forget the “Alert: Don’t add imahacker435678, they’re a hacker who will jack your friends list and give your computer viruses!” It’s getting SOOOO old!

      • Wolf says:

ithink it’s clear that iamahacker435678 .. it tells you in the name

        • Wolf says:

*i think it’s clear that iamahacker435678 is a hacker .. it tells you in the name

          • Matt says:

I kind of think that was to show how obvious it is.. lol

            • gilbird says:

              exactly my Thought too.

            • Peterpan likes ferries says:

I always get the damn UK spam emails…..You’ve won this lotterey you’ve never participated in in your life or your relative you’ve never met and doesnt share the same name as you died……you’ve won 2000000 US dollars or are the beneficiary too……….now we just need you to send all of your personnal info, bank info and 676 dollars to release the funds……lol

Sooooo easy to tell what spam is anymore. But who doesn’t dream of one day inheriting more then Mr Deeds.

              • Jigain says:

Don’t forget the African princess whose father was brutally assassinated who chose YOU (and a few hundred thousand others around the world) to ask for help with recieving a few million USD.

              • Reki says:

I personally like the ones that say that you need to send a copy of your birth certificate, social security card and passport as well as a photo ID and your credit card info to win $1000. :D

                Nope…nothing suspicious here.

            • whatwhattheoriginal says:

I think you are correct! Captain Wolf Obvious doesn’t do sarcasm.

  3. Gringo says:

Actualy, is a good idea to insert news or interactif thing on your post, Failbook team!

  4. Orion Fury says:

I say a fail is a fail. So long as they don’t overpower, like ROLFlash seems to be doing, then I don’t mind.

  5. Anon says:

This interests me. I like randomly-inserted bits of news into my fails. My mother’s boyfriends’ 14-year-old son would easily be the kind of person that this scam would work on.

  6. Phantom Ninja says:

I like having random bits of news on Failbook. Sure, why not?

As for the scam thing, one of my friends fell for that today, actually. I have one word: VIRUS. Those links spread viral poison and are ready to hospitalize unsuspecting computers quicker than food poisoning. RESIST THE URGE TO CLICK!

    • stuma says:

Agreed, a lot of people would have missed the original article (I for one hadn’t heard about mashable before this) so it helps to have it in multiple spots. Plus there are a lot of gullible facebookers around that do click on those links or play those ‘click LIKE to see this shocking picture of [insert famous person name here].

  7. GlobeReacher says:

This kind of info is not easy to get all in one place. I think it’s a great idea.

  8. suomynona says:

Personally, I come here to see and laugh at facebook stupidity and/or cleverness. The latter, of course, being in much shorter supply than the former.

I don’t need reposts of content I’ve already seen on Mashable, or anywhere else. I don’t need to be warned about internet safety and scams, especially extrodinarily obvious scams like this one. IMO, most of the people who really need to get this information probably don’t even know about Cheezburger.

  9. blindfaith says:

I have a few friends on facebook that post stuff like this frequently even after I send them a private message telling them that crap like this is a scam, but they still continue to post it, I have “unfriended” people over it

    • gilbird says:

see, the problem is that since they got hacked, the stuff starts publishing stuff even when they’re not online. its not a one-time deal. it happens for weeks sometimes. and most of the time, unless you let them know, the person who got hacked doesn’t know it.

  10. myboo1210 says:

omg i actually went for this one… i feel so dumb now >.<

  11. Catflap says:

I don’t like the idea of diluting fails with random news. I like keeping things separate, otherwise it can get boring.

  12. RainbowPoof says:

    Unfortunately, I think a lot of people I know would fall for this sort of scam. My mom and some of her friends have just started copying and pasting some chain letter thing because they think what it says is true. -_-;

  13. britbrat20 says:

Hey remember the email scams of the late 90′s like “if you forward this email to 20 people you will get $100 dollar gift card from the Gap..” Idk maybe these or something similar are still around but I don’t use email like I used to.

    • Wolf says:

that’s how it all started.. when people 1st moved from e-mailing to social networking it stoped for a while but the the same people realized it could be done on any level

      • Epictrollisepic says:

I know a bit about scamming. usually if they use “url hiders” Well, they have something to hide. Look carefully at the http, and you’ll see slight differences. Delete cookies (you don’t really need them anyway, well some.) and if someone gives you a link that you aren’t sure of, don’t click on it. With one click someone can get a cookie from you and bam, it doesn’t matter how many times you change your password, they can always log in on your account.

There’s no “amazing diets”, there are no quick ways to get cash, there is no news that hasn’t already been leaked on the web that happens to be on special network sites. Sorry to crush hopes and dreams. But its all FAKE. Especially the Acai berry crap lmao :) it amuses me.

    • Xenobio says:

They ARE still around. I’ve had like 5 morons invite me to join the “free iPad” group.

  14. Alex says:

I think reading the scams is pretty funny, because I know that someone, somewhere is falling for it, and that’s almost as funny as a regular fail.

  15. Wolf says:

i like it how they havn’t censord out the spammers names of profile pics

  16. Wolf says:

the 13 people who have disliked this are probably the ones who start the scams

  17. DDDD says:

I would like to see posts like this, just not too many.
I see it as “this is a facebook fail that has gotten so common that it’s become news.” I never get how people can spend such great amounts of time online and not know the basics of security.

  18. bpod says:

Personally not interested in diluting the focus of this blog with scam notices — unless they’re funny, that is…

  19. Belle says:

I think it would be a great PSA for people. This mother and daughter pair keep falling for the same scams.

  20. Cami says:

I literally had some Facebook trickery happen to me today. I clicked on a link which was written well and relevant to the discussion in a bunch of comments on a photo in a group. I opened it in a new tab so only noticed later that it was a weird French app…I closed the tab and assumed nothing of it.
Then I noticed later that in my Apps section on the left of my page the same app was there. (In that section where you have to move the app there yourself along with the ones you use most often) It bumped all 4 others down so only Photos was there. It’s called Gueulesart Mastermind, and I have no idea how to get rid of it now. It refreshed all of my tabs related to Facebook simultaneously earlier, too…
And I can find nothing about it online.

So yeah, things like this would be very handy as long as they’re not obvious spam that anyone who has at least one brain cell can tell is fake.

  21. Cami says:

Oh, and I now have 15 credits for some reason. I’ve never put real money into my Facebook.

    • whatwhattheoriginal says:

They’ve been giving them away, I randomly got 25 one day, and Bejeweled Blitz is letting you give away 5 free ones to your friends if you publish a post about it to your wall.

  22. Jim says:

If you warn people about this stuff, there will be fewer fails. Can’t have that!

  23. Taryn says:

its about a girl who got killed texting and driving , cause she got a message saying “where u at”

    Bypassfacebookfanpages is the source.

  24. starrypawz says:

My dad did fall for a FB spam scam, I think it was the ‘look at this vid’ one or something, and then of course his computer got a virus from it.

  25. iamahacker435678 says:

I heard somone was running their mouth about me here……… so gonna get hacked.

  26. imessar says:

I say post the news, I want my fails to be about hilariously stupid stuff people did *on their own*, not just fell for a preventable scam.

  27. Epictrollisepic says:

So they finally got my scam memos. Kudos, its only been a year and sum since I found more then 100 of the crap.

  28. Icesnake says:

Glad to see someone publicizing the scams – but I am afraid the failers who clicked those links before will click the same ones again next week. I despair that humankind will ever have an average IQ higher than that of a koala.

  29. Bobbin says:

I’m posting this onto my fb profile now:

I am shocked!!! The teacher nearly killed this boy. Video here: http://tinyurl.com/2eqemoc – Worldwide scandal!

The link redirects to the mashable article. I wonder how many people fall for it.

  30. britishbroccoli says:

Please don’t add news to failbook. If we want news we can look at a news site. We come here for the fails, not to be warned about obvious scams that idiots fell for.

  31. Jared says:

I actually really like this. I find it very useful. Thanks for keeping me informed as well as laughing.

  32. The Queen says:

Hello, everyone! I’m here to spread the wonderful word of equality! Did you know that all humans are equal? It’s true! No one person is greater or lesser than another! Isn’t that great?! God made us that way, and God expects us to treat each other that way, so make sure you’re kind to everyone you see!

Do you believe in equality? Good! Let’s make this world a better place and spread the word together that all human beings are equal!

  33. Xenobio says:

If you post your real phone number and address on Facebook it’s automatically a fail.

  34. FailSafe says:

I like the fail preventing news. Keep it.

  35. SunnyD says:

I have TOO many friends that would fall for something like this…

  36. Lizzie Meyers says:

I just wanted to point out, the free Acai Berry thing isn’t a scam. They really do send you a free one-month supply of Acai Berry, you just have to pay about $3 for shipping. That’s how my friend lost a ton of weight, but of course, gained it back because she only wanted to utilize the free trial…

  37. Anon says:

–This is why people need to learn how to change their application settings. Sometimes I’ll look at those apps just out of curiosity (because on occasion there’s something there) but I try to make sure the application settings are such that it can’t post stuff without my permission like that. And if that’s the only way to get it to work, you can always go to application settings and change it asap.

  38. dannyb says:

post away. thanks for the tip. just the tip.

  39. Meagan says:

By all means, post news like this! I like reading about this stuff.

  40. Ess says:

Failbook isn’t for news. If you’re stupid enough to fall for scams and/or stupid enough to make your profile public, you deserve everything you get, and I really couldn’t care less as long as it makes me laugh. So no. News bits on Failbook is, well, fail.

  41. Iamfedupwiththespaming says:

Have you seen all these anti macdonalds groups and sites??? They are getting so annoying…And there are over 20 of them!!!! Who has paid for all this antimacdonald commercial…I wonder..i like to think they are a pizza company, or something. If they were people like us,with no interest on the matter, they wouldnt spam and lie and post misleading links….its really very mysterious!!!

  42. ShadowTheTroll says:

This was hardly a scam, it only came about because people are retarded and don’t change their privacy settings. It was perfectly legal.

  43. Brianna says:

There’s this weird similar thing on YouTube. I’m a Justin Bieber fan (teenage girl) and on EVERY SINGLE ONE of his videos, there’s a weird comment like “he looks like a? cutie He is a talented teenager and he is becoming a popular celebrity based from what I’ve read in ObtainJustinMp3(.)tk” (btw i pasted it) And I won’t click on it, but its mysterious…..

  44. Lots42 says:

My dumb friends fall for every Facebook scam that comes along. Then they post ‘Oh, sorry, I fell for a scam’. Next week, they DO IT AGAIN OMG WTF. Bonus; NEARLY IDENTICAL SCAMS.

  45. Bob says:

This wasn’t a leak, it was all publicly available information collected and released at one time. A leak is when something is put out that isn’t available to the public normally.

  46. Crysee says:

Luckily all of my friends are hackerz and trollz. I’m all set.

  47. segaloco says:

Well, I may know how this could’ve happened. There were a couple of phishing sites I stumbled upon a while back, around mid July. I reported them right away, but decided to do some digging. I managed to get access to the file listing of the public_html file for their server, and posted it on an IRC channel joking that they were idiot’s not to 403 that. I didn’t realize what all those files were when I posted it. One of them was called password.txt…. inside of it was a listing of every email and password that had been entered on the site. Well, you could imagine how stupid I felt after that, so I took it into my own hands to email everyone on that list there and have them reset their passwords ASAP. Still, the list was constantly updating, so the newest accounts on that site are probably uninformed, as well as the OTHER servers this bot/hacker uses…. I’ve reported these issues to the Facebook staff and the government’s department on phishing, but I haven’t gotten any replies back, although recently trying to access those password files it seems they have been locked down. Whether the proper authorities or the creators locked them I know not…

  48. Ana says:

Hooobooo, my profile is on a torrent file. I’m shocked and appaled.
Yes, everything on it is public, because I don’t trust facebook “friends” with information I wouldn’t want to my parents/boss/random stranger to see. So stalk away!
