My neighbors borrow each others babies all the time to get more food stamps. They aren’t doing anything creepy with the babies. The babies are just for show.

Yea I agree with you on the point that people judge a great deal by facial appearance. Studies have been done that show prettier people have to try less hard to persuade people than uglier people do and people are much more likely to resent ugly people over trivial things than they are to do the same to attractive people.

Ok, bertbad is full o’ crap. I work for Health and Welfare, determining if people are eligible for food stamps and Medicaid. A birth verification form is required (given by the hospital) to prove you are said babies mother. I’m sure ALL states have this requirement. As far as creepy dude, he is obviously someone with NO social skills or boundaries, I’m really hoping his “friends” had more common sense than to “lend” him a baby.
It is true, I could misunderstand. I just hear people talking in the neighborhood and saying give me that baby I need more stamps. But protective services will take your baby if you don’t treat it well. I’ve seen that for sure a lot of times.

tatertots… you do know that most government workers are lazy and inept right? For instance, here in CA, people were using EBT cards to withdraw money at ATM’s in Strip Clubs. For uh… buying food. Illegal immigration is supposed to be enforced too, we see how that’s going with the O dude suing Arizona.
If you are saying “most”, you are referring to a stereotype. There all lazy people in every job in the world. I’m sure if you have a job, you have at least one lazy co-worker. I am aware of the news reports about the EBT cards being used in inappropriate places in CA. Not sure if they are used here at similar establishments. There is fraud everywhere you go, nothing is perfect and the work loads caseworkers are under is amazing. We are doing more work, for less hours (CA has also been subjected to unpaid furlough), static pay and fewer employees. In this state EIGHT workers are responsible for determining nursing home eligibility for the ENTIRE state. There are time lines that must be followed, hundreds of applications a month by eight workers… you do the math. SOMEONE is working. BTW, workers determine eligibility, we don’t have any power over where EBT cards are used. I’m sure after the press CA has been given, other states will take similar actions to curtail where they can be used. But who’s going to watch when someone goes to the supermarket, withdraws money and then drives over the the casino? Also, the food stamp portion of the card can ONLY be used for food. The cash part is usually from child support payments or low income cash grant. Not so much government fail as parenting fail.
