might actually work…
it doesnt….ive tried it millions of time
If you have that kind of fly problem or spend that much time chasing the same fly, I fear for your sanity.
when it’s dark, bugs are attracted to the screen.
if you wave the cursor around in front of it, it sometimes changes direction or goes around.
It does work. Maybe you just have mutant bugs.
I once had a fly on my monitor which followed my cursor. I think the fly was lonely
Even better is when you quick grab something and hit the screen with it.
CRASH!
that’s what i do.. but having to clean up the dead bug stuck to the screen isn’t very fun. i should try the cursor thing.
If you hit hard enough, bug guts will be the least of your problems.
lol .. I do it all the time..
I’ve never done that, but then I can’t remember if I have ever had a bug land on my screen before…*ponders*
same here… i just did that a few minutes ago!!!
why doesnt it work? You would think the bug can see the cursor moving and become startled or what have you.
Might depend on the type of screen you have. An LCD at the angle (and proximity) a bug would see it from might prevent the bug from seeing anything actually being displayed on the screen.
I was wondering the same thing, but that makes sense.
Yep, same here
And I think it worked once.
I’ve done that.
I HAVE actually done that myself…
did it once
Can’t say I have? :S
No need for the question mark because what you said was a statement.
you’re dumb
You’re wrong. A question is being asked.
actually it is a vague statement answering a question, the can part is answered by the not within is own sentence too, so statement
Have you ever had a annoying troll spam pedantic corrections across your screen and the first reaction you have was to try to scare him off with a curse?
^WIN^
I have done that once…
Yeah i have done this before now xD
yea, happened a few times
i’ve tried to point at the floor and my tv with my cursor too, computer overdose ftw
nope… don’t think i have
Never done it before but i want to try it now!!!!
You’re safe as long as you don’t click the fly. And don’t even think of right-clicking it, you’ll doom us all with you!
yep
umm no
Whaa, I do it all the time. And so do you, admit it.
guilty.
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Oh, wait…
I’ve done that before =/
I must admit that I have done that.
lol… Failbook fail!
I really have, if you get a really dark screen and a moth lands on it it follows it around a little.
Why doesn’t it help when I do it? )’:[
They never fly away.. ;O
Clean up the beer cans and you wont see those small bugs anymore … trust me
yeah, was to lazy to move
just choose a natural enemy background, like a lizzard or something
I think the author means “pointer” not “cursor”. The cursor is where you are TYPING. The _pointer_ is where your mouse is currently positioned. Or is that the fail?!
DjDanny…….
A cursor is a moving placement or pointer that indicates a position.
Nah, it’s a cursor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursor_(computers)#Mouse_cursor
LOL. No, I think you are right. Kill joy!
<– and I mean that in the nicest way.
Actually, the cursor IS the arrow or pointing finger. I don’t know what the name of the blinking line in the text box is, though. Frankly, I don’t give a s**t.
BUT, terminology differs from country to country and even state to state.
Example: A truck in the U.S. is a lorry in the U.K.
You say toe-mott-oh I say toe-mate-oh (tomato).
Who says toe-mott-oh?
Actually, there is a text cursor & a mouse cursor. The mouse cursor is sometimes called a pointer because of it’s shape.
In computing, a cursor is an indicator used to show the position on a computer monitor or other display device that will respond to input from a text input or pointing device.
So not a “fail”.
Wikipedia to the rescue: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cursor_(computers)
There’s a mouse cursor and a text cursor. And the mouse cursor can also be called “mouse pointer”.
I’m pretty sure he understood from the other 5 people telling him this.
Yep. Sadly, they don’t pay attention to what they’re standing on.
win i do this all the time
I do this all the time
LOL…
hahha i’ve totally done it before.
Scare a bug with a cursor? How is the command prompt supposed to scare an insect?
They’re afraid of technology.
I do it all of the time. I even had one bug that got really freaked out by the cursor (who wouldn’t when the light underneath you seems to be going crazy).
always
I do that a lot. It actually works for me sometimes. That, or scrolling the page I’m on rapidly.
Actually I smack the screen and smash the bug…I’ve had it happen way too many times. If it’s a big bug, I flick it away.
I forsee a broken screen and Kerri crying.
OFC I have!!!
I do it all the time, especially since I live in Southeast Missouri in a heavily wooded area in the middle of nowhere, so bugs get into my house all the time. And I never learn, since it never, ever works at all.
hahaha FAIL … god thats only funny because it’s something i would do.
All the time…
ima definitely try this
I’m confused as to why this is funny because it actually works. Or at least it always does for me!
I use both, hand and cursor…
Unfortunately I do haha
Lawl that’s always my first reaction (A)
I do this intentionally, it works on flies.
I whack them with my hand then get sorry
Guess what. Movable cursors for the real world actually exist!
http://www.windfiredesigns.com/timbofolio_pages/PointerKite.html
hahahaha… dudes thats sick!
Wow…what if you took a picture of that in the sky and used it as the background for your computer? Then, you would get all frustrated because your cursor wasn’t moving, and do a facepalm when you realized it was the wrong cursor…and it would he even better if you ended up getting the whole thing on your webcam!
i have done that many times :L
I usually let my mouse eat it.
My logic is, maybe the bug can see the mouse pointer too, and it’ll be startled by a weird object moving around near them? I don’t think it’s such a stretch.
I’ve done that, and it works if it’s a bright cursor on a dark/black background. The bug probably wouldn’t notice it if it’s already a bright background/window open on the screen, but it’s less likely the bug would have landed on the screen in the first case if it wasn’t already bright – so the situations were it would work are pretty rare.
Nops… never! i dont live in the countryside… haha
I do this regularly to chase away flies.
It works.
this Fail=/=a Fail
I do that if a fly gets on my screen, but unfortunately, it never works.
Whenever theres an insect in my house, my first thought is either to kill it or release it outside. What would be the point of scaring it away?, it would only come back to annoy you again…
I tried it. It worked once, but it landed again and then the only way is to make random lighting from the monitor
I did that once and the gnat flew away.
It happens to me a lot.
I’ve done this, but instead of it scaring the bug, I just managed to herd it around the screen before getting bored and blowing at it to get it to fly off.
I felt like I could have raised a bug farm on my computer screen, though, if that wouldn’t have been completely gross. Controlling the movement of a tiny creature with just a few pixels…
Gosh, it’s like I was Blizzard or something. XD
“tiny creature with just a few pixels…
Gosh, it’s like I was Blizzard or something. XD”
LMFAO!!
LIES guy-who-titles-the-failbooks, u know u tried it, dont lie
Has the opposite effect on my cat.
yes…
As it so happens, I have a video of me herding a fly around with my cursor. It does, indeed, work (if the room is dark). Video is at:
And/or I have linked as my website.
It works. If the page you’re on is predominantly dark then the white mouse cursor will scare the bug. It usually doesn’t make it fly away but it does make it run (from personal experiences) away from the cursor. Kind of like herding livestock.
I’ve done this before. I’ve also tried doing CTRL-Z when I messed up on a homework assignment…
Happened to me on my old Commodore 64. Too lazy to get up, I just entered POKE 53280,1:POKE 53281,1 – the whole screen turned white, scaring it away
My friend posted that lol
How is this a fail?
I have done this frist
holy crap my friend posted this. lol
i did, n it actually WORKED !
I did it!!!
I tend to do the opposite, and try to scratch off errant pixels.
This DOES work. At least every time I’ve done it…
yesh happens all the time late at night, and it wroks
YES
title fail.
we all do that.
I once tried to stun a moth by moving the cursor back and forth around it. It just stopped moving.
haha! headshot! i’ve done that before…
and actually, it works buddy.
really.
I do that. Then I follow it around the screen for a few minutes. Procrastination for the win.
OMG… there’s one now….. flee flee little gnat…. NOOOO Don’t fly at me…
I select the bug and move it to trash, then empty the trash can.
It always work.
it works for me and i do seperate virtual reality and physical reality :/
LOL! I DO THIS ALLLLLLLLLL THE TIME
Well, it wasn’t an insect, but I did have a jumping spider crawling around on my monitor once. I moved the cursor near it, and the spider actually started tracking it. It even jumped at it to try to catch it.
LOL I’ve done this before.
it never works though…
I think I may have tried that once or twice and they either follow or run away. But somewhat interestingly, my grandmother has tried to swat my cursor once o_O
I had a little spider on my screen once, and it kept following the cursor. Sadly I did not get video.
lol I’ve totally done that
sometimes it actually works.
