It is not needed, but it is not an error. It is a choice of style and allowed by standard English rules. Nowadays you hardly see the comma before ‘and’, but that doesn’t not automatically make it wrong.

Nah, this has done the rounds for years.
To answer the actual question in the facebook-fail, “ups” is a word, it’s the German translation for “oops”. And if the letters are spelled separately, it’s the name of a renowned parcel service, just for that matter.
I am amused that no one commented the correct spelling of “Grammar” on her status.
So many times I wonder how many US citizens fail at correct grammar and spelling … I am a European non-English native and I always get a feeling of superiority in English over 90% of native US folks.
Oh, and I am a Grammar Nazi in my own language as I come from a county where my language is spoken most correctly but the irony is that I have a good friend that comes from a different county known for language-twisting but she even corrects me … it’s annoying yet hilarious at the same time because I am also able to pick up some of her misspronounciations and we have a good laugh about it. So if you are to be a Grammar Nazi be one with a style and respect.
