double fail … because not only are they two separate groups as noted, the poster is adding the # of people who CAN NOT in group A and the # of people who CAN in group B. even though they still would have been wrong, they at least should have tried to add 97 and 13 or 87 and 3 …
Actually the only fail is in not recognizing that Harvard grads and Kindergartners are not the same group of people. Think about it. If the FB group name had been “97% of Harvard grads can’t answer this but 87% [of Harvard grads] can”, then saying there’s an error due to the two values not adding to 100% (give or take for rounding) would be correct. The probability of A and the probability of A complement should total 1, if it is indeed A and A complement being added together. The failers mistake was in not realizing the two percentages were not A and A’s complement. Source: Stats I.
Fail fail.
Just for all you grads who didn’t catch it: “97 +87″ is NOT the question. The question that “97% of grads get wrong and 87% of kindergartners get correct” is prolly something along the lines of: The Rich don’t have it, The poor own it, If you eat me you will die. What am I?
Spoiler geniuses: The answer is ‘Nothing’
College students look into it and try to come up with something logical, or deep.
Kindergartners take it at face value and simply say ‘nothing’
except i’m sure those stats are just totally made up. somebody randomly attached them to their riddle one day b/c it wasn’t getting enough exposure, and voila.
It’s really not epic though. The poster’s FAIL was definitely of epic proportions, but i would hardly call it a “burn” at all let alone an epic burn. 99.99999% of educated adults would notice the flaws inherent in that post; this person just happened to be the first one that tripped along the status and corrected the moron.
Was this the one they couldn’t answer: What’s greater than God, more evil than the Devil, the poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it you’ll die…?
I was going to say that. When people are incredibly anal about things they should at least make sure that their spelling and grammar is immaculate first.
first lul
first one
What is this, like, “Facebook:Pirate edition”?
it’s a language option on Facebook.
Pirates kick ass. So do ninjas. You cannot make me choose.
lol i just changed it to that XD
well, yes.
yes it is.
you can set it as your language
It’s a language choice for viewing the site in, just like English, French, Italian, etc.
yea, just set your language to “English (Pirate)”
You can set the language to English: Pirate
Actually, you can change the language in which your facebook is. And those languages include Pirate English and L33t amongst others
If you want it, at the bottom it says English (Im assuming your english) click it and pick english (pirate)
Hmm, I wonder if it’s a language option? I’ll see if a million more people can tell us!
what an idiot.
i love how the explanation was exactly the same as the group name….??
I suppose this was a little too intellectual for most of the people on Facebook.
its English (Pirate), its under the language selection
not first oh burn
You can choose pirate as a language on facebook
someone should shoot this guy/girl in the face with a musket.
you can change language at the bottom and ther it is pirate and upsidedown
yes. you can change your language to “English (pirate)” under settings
Yarrr!!
Even I caught that Kindergärtner and Harvard grads are 2 separate groups and I go to a State University.
I tried Pirate English for a day or 2 and got annoyed and confused more than I do having my language setting to Finnish or any other foreign language.
I’m trying out 1337 5p33k5 right now, and it gets pretty funny. xD
Can you say DUH?!?!?
I think even Kindergartners know that 97 + 87 doesn’t equal 100.

% … not # … don’t get on me, i corrected myself!
Well I’m gonna get on you for something else. “Cannot” is one word.
Actually, both are correct.

Fail fail.
wonder if they know it’s “kinderGARDEN”….
I really hope this was sarcasm … If not … KinderGARTEN is taken from the German and means “Children’s Garden”
FAIL

Didn’t you know that 56.8% of all statistics are made up on the spot?
No, it’s the one where the wife shoots her husband and hangs him then they go out to dinner afterwards.
Lol, I don’t think the kindergartners take it at face value. They just don’t really know the answer, and assume there isn’t one.
Epic burn is epic! XD

Must be one of those 97% Harvard Grads
Was this the one they couldn’t answer: What’s greater than God, more evil than the Devil, the poor have it, the rich need it, and if you eat it you’ll die…?
Yes it is, and the answer was no.
or to be more correct ‘Nothing’
I am a Harvard grad and I would very much like to know exactly what that question was…
LAST
lol! you have found a good niche.
That smarta** spelled “sepArate” wrong.
I was going to say that. When people are incredibly anal about things they should at least make sure that their spelling and grammar is immaculate first.
Was it really necessary to say “oh burn” before uploading this?
What can’t they answer??
I’m so intrigued…. but now I will never know
97 + 87 is not 100.
Those numbers (percentages) don’t correspond to each other. They are separate, for separate groups (Harvard grads vs Kindergartners).
Yeah, I think he knows but he’s trying to be CAPTAIN OBVIOUS (ADMIRAL APPARENT)
i lost count on how many times i facepalmed after reading this one
it always amazes me how stupid people can be
pirate language
*Facepalm*
i cannot find pirate
