You know that people die every year from the flu, right? Not even something special like swine flu, but the regular, generic flu?
Actually, it’s kind of hard to tell. The CDC lumps flu deaths in with pneumonia deaths.
From the CDC: Each week, the vital statistics offices of 122 cities report the total number of death certificates received and the number of those for which pneumonia or influenza was listed as the underlying or contributing cause of death by age group.

and generally, we don’t catch the Epidemics until they are about to end. We really don’t know how many people were killed by the H1N1 virus. However, going to the hospital to be treated for the flu can be, and is, laughable in some cases. You treat all flu strains the same way. Going to the hospital will pretty much only tell you that a) you have it and b) need to keep hydrated.
He’s going to the hospital to get checked for H1N1. Not to be admitted.
Too bad there is no vaccine for stupidity.

I have to call foul on the OP, as well … “‘Flu’ and ‘Swine Flu’ i have one or the other.” If he had swine flu, he would still have a form of the flu. Not really a “one or the other” situation.

It wasn’t all that stupid, because the flu is called “Influensa” in Norwegian. It is a real word, even though it is not commonly used.

Um…. wow. Fail’s on you actually. Influenza is the scientific term for the disease which is commonly simply called ‘the flu’. The fail isn’t that Influenza’s a made up word, the fail is that ‘Joe’ didn’t know that Influenza was the full term for ‘the flu’.
