The fail here is that you CAN’T join the Army at 16. That’s a load of BS and people need to check their facts before posting this garbage. I’ve been in the military a long time and did a tour of recruiting. So before you try to quote some trash that you can, you are wrong.
As many people on this thread have pointed out, evidently there are *other* armies in the world apart from the US army.

I enlisted in the U.S. Marines at 17, went to basic at 17, graduated basic and infantry school all before my 18th birthday. In the U.S. you can enlist AND serve at 17 with parental consent.

With parental consent. This rule was made for kids in their senior year who want to join right out of high school but won’t be 18 for a while after.

actually, one can get into the military when one is 17 and a JUNIOR in high school. boot camp is during summer break between junior and senior year. during one’s senior year, one is on reserve status until one graduates and then one goes to AIT or A-school, depending on which branch one is going into, and then one goes to their assigned duty station. i have numerous friends that have done this.

I play MW2, and i have to say, its pretty unrealistic. I mean, we’re talking about a game in which you can take multiple shots from a high caliber weapon, and if you get away, just walk it off. Now, i have never been shot, don’t really have a wish to be, but i was under the impression that if you get hit in the chest with a 50 caliber round, your ass isn’t walking much of anywhere. This being said, it is a great game.

It’s not necessarily the states. Bit of a weird example, but the age of consent in Peru is twelve. And you can join the army at 16 here in the UK so yeah.

Yeah, but you don’t get to actually BE in the military (other than an option to start training between your junior & senior years) until you graduate high school. And, for the first year after that, you’re non-deployable, so you’ll be 19 (or so close to it to be no real difference) before you’ll see combat, unless some nutjob attacks you like the guy at Fort Hood, the guy that attacked the recruiters in Arkansas, or the one yesterday at the Pentagon.
And, I’ve yet to see that age limit prevent an adult from installing the game, and their teen play it. My 15 year old nephew (who lives with his mother)has been playing MW2 via internet with his father since the game came out. Hell, he was slapping his hoes around in GTA when he was still in elementary school.

(Shortly after 9/11, police in England asked a guy for his papers suspecting he might be a terrorist, he was a student out of his visa and ran for it thinking they’d deport him. I just think it’s halarious that we, americans, got the english language from Britain….yet she doesn’t even know how to spell. Also, by “the war” i assume you’re referring to ‘The American War of Independence’. While in its own right a monumental moment of the eighteenth century (and for you), it did not occur just between Great Britain and the United States alone. You had France, Spain and the Dutch Republic all aiding you throughout while we had several minor states and nations aiding us.
I love how many Americans refer to it when giving reasons as to why you are better when clearly, you would not have achieved this feat on your own.

The Americans were decent fighters, and our own soldiers at the time didn’t do the best, but to my knowledge it was the French naval blockade that ended our involvement in the region for good. Apparently another major factor was that British territory in the Caribbean, like Jamaica, produced far more revenue due to the sugar trade than the American colonies did, so when the factors… and the French, were stacking up against the Empire, they left as they could afford to.
Dunno why people constantly joke about the French being bollocks at war either. They’ve held their own for centuries, conquered most of Europe under Napoleon… and in the end, they surrendered after a Nazi blitzkrieg, which no countries neighbouring Nazi Germany were prepared for, or able to defeat.

Umm, you absolutely have to be 18 to enter military service. I signed up when I was 17, with my parents written consent, but you can not ship out to basic training until you are 18. Unless recruitment standards have hit the floor in the last 8 years.

At least in the past five years, you can most definitely go to BCT for the US Army before you turn 18. I was in and out (medical discharge) before I turned 18, since I have a late birthday, and there were people between their junior and senior years of HS in my unit.

You can be 17 and join the military (with parental permission) in America, but this post didn’t originate in the States. That “18″ rating isn’t ESRB, so it came from somewhere else, where they allow people to join the military when they’re 16.
Actually, that’s a UK 18 certification marker on that game, and in the UK you can join the army as a soldier at 16, and as an officer at 17.

I think you’ll find it’s a group about the UK – that’s a UK age restriction logo. In the UK you can join the army at 16 as you can legally leave school at 16, but apparently you can’t play CoD until you’re 18.

This is relating through the UK military (hense the UK age rating stamp) where you can officially sign up at the age of 16 through the cadets organisation. You do not go to the front line until you are 18, but your soul is theirs from the age of 16.

The whole facebook group is a fail. They have absolutely no clue what they are talking about. You have to be 18 to join the military on your own. You can join at 17 WITH parental permission and a high school diploma or GED. Similarly, to purchase a copy of MW2 on your own, you must be 18 or you can get your parents to buy it at any age. If they think there are more limitations to purchase a video game than to join the Army, then they are pretty stupid. It sounds like they have way too much free time.

Pretty sure this group was put up by either a UK facebooker or an Australian Facebooker. They have different age limits for joining the military, as well as stricter censoring of Mature video games. That rating that is circled is not the US’s ESRB game-rating label.

Look at the age rating, it’s obviously not rated my the ESRB. That means it’s in/from another country, meaning that the military age might be different.
That logo is BBFC style, meaning it comes from the UK. (Being phased out, in favor of the PEGI system used in most of Europe.) And 16 is indeed the age to enlist in the British Army (although you have to be 18 to deploy).
It was always a comedic point in Britain that you could enlist in the army at 16 and die for your country but you couldn’t vote for which government sent you to die until you were 18. You can also get married at 16 but can’t celebrate with champagne legally until your 18.

I joined the US Army at 17. I’ve heard you can join at 16, but I’ve never seen it done. You used to not be able to deploy until 18, but now it’s optional.

You can’t join the army until you’re 18, with the exception of emancipated minors. Under UN legislation, any individual under 18 who is part of an armed forces division, whether sanctioned or not, would be classified as a “child soldier”.

I work in a Game store, and I’m forever IDing kids that dont look old enough for the 18 rated (or Mature in America) games. If I dont check, I end up with a hefty fine and a criminal record.

And working in a Game store isn’t just standing there and handing over a box, you’ve to know what you’re talking about when people ask about connectivity and cables they need, lug heavy boxes around and endure the same “Why can’t I have that game without ID” from kids trying to buy stuff they shouldn’t have.
Did you know some games are historically accurate? Or that there are “games” you can purchase to improve your skills? I’m waiting for a game that will teach me Japanese, personally.
I think we need to stop defending videogame overuse. Yeah, there’s so much mindless, panicky bullshit out there that it’s hard to take criticism seriously, but it’s like anything else: getting addicted will ruin your life. And even with responsible heavy use, if a virtual world is the best form of entertainment you can find, chances are you’re missing out.
I think the fail here is the mass misinterpretation of this fail.

First of all, you have all yelled at each other about which country this is from so much, you missed the fact it doesn’t matter.
Fact 1: You can join the military in this person’s country (presumably the UK) WITH PARENTAL CONSENT (http://www.armyjobs.mod.uk/howdoijoin/canijoin/Pages/EntryRequirements.aspx)
Fact 2: You must be 18 to BUY THE GAME. Not use it, unless the British legal authorities go through peoples houses and arrest them for breaking these sales rules. Which would be pretty messed up.
Therefore: A 16 year old can equally get parental permission to join the military or get a parental to buy the game. I can’t see a parent doing the former and disallowing the latter. That’s just weird.
Second of all, just because this was from another country doesn’t mean the moderator who put this up knew that. You assume people are enough to research minute details, like you do. Which they don’t. Fact.

I an a US Army sniper and have spent 2 years in Iraq and am preparing for another in Afghanistan. I also love to play the COD games – not because they’re so real (how the F do I know what WWII was like?) I say all that to show that I have a bit of knowlege of both sides of this post, the Army side and the video game side. I feel that the biggest fail of the post is the misuse of the word “your.” The poster says “you can join the army when YOUR 16…”
WRONG! The correct word would be YOU’RE, which is a contraction for YOU ARE. I am so tired of people displaying their ignorance and illiteracy by constantly misusing the words YOUR, YOU’RE, THERE, THEIR, and THEY’RE.

Well, *I* thought it was a funny fail. Related but not as ironically funny: In the US, at 18 you are considered old and mature enough to decide to die for your county, but you are not considered old and mature enough to drink alcohol.
Being in the army teaches you valuable life leasons (and not just how to shoot someone) and I doubt a western military would send a 16 year old on a fighting tour. CoD teaches kids war is fun (which any soldier would dispute), to be combative with others (like their families, teachers, and bosses) , and makes fat kids fatter.
Apparently it is a good thing that 16 year-olds cannot play CoD, considering they still don’t know the difference between “your” and “you’re.”
I’m Sorry but considering my brother joined the army at 18 i cant think other wise at both stories. You can train for the miletry when you are 13 considering i have several friends children who do so. Basicly my point here is, Men Bash cod…Fair enough. So just leave them to it. I really hate it when people go on about what the law is “in Australia” when they don’t have a clue. The age of consent in Australia is different in each state. In Victoria, it’s legal for two 10 year olds to go at it.

So someone probably already said it, but in a LOT of places the requirement to join the military is to be at least 18 years old or 17 with parental consent. And come on, I don’t know what everyone’s complaining about, if the kid is wanting that game and they’re under 18 more than likely their ma or pops will be the ones buying the game.

OK first of all yes there is more than one Army than the US Army…HOWEVER I am going to assume that a 16 year old American boy made this page (only because I haven’t been able to find it on FB) and you have to be 17 years old to join the Army in the US. If you are 17 you need either your GED or you got to basic training over the summer between your junior and senior year of high school…then once you graduate you finish your training…BTW the only reason I’m assuming its an American teen (i.e. Person from the U.S.) is because most American teens these days seem to be getting dumber and dumber…It’s really starting to worry me.
