This doesn’t make sense. When you text 90999, you get a reply text that asks you to confirm that you would like to donate $10 to Haiti. Then you have to respond yes to that text.
So, either she didn’t reply to the confirmation text, or she did and still thought it was free (which makes her a realy genius)
It’s pretty clearly the latter. Even though she confirms that she would like to donate $10 to Haiti, she seems blindly foolish enough to assume the cell phone company would do it out of the goodness of their hearts.
Or maybe that Sandy Claws would cover it. But yeah, my assessment would be the same – she’s just that stupid.

This is why chain emails/bulletins/statuses should all be shot, hanged, then drowned and burned. There are charities where for each person that clicks “like” on the company’s FaceBook page or follows them on Twitter, etc., they (the company) donates $1 or so to the charity (of course it’s not free, the company gets “viewers” out of it which they can parlay into ad-dollars). Stephen Colbert did this a while back.
Cara thought that this was the same thing: people “spend” their time by texting in, and the company donates some money. Obviously she’s too young to really understand corporate economics to realize that this was not the case, but it doesn’t mean that she was stupid or greedy.
No, she thought it was free. Like her cellphone plan. If another human being pays for your activities, that’s free, isn’t it?

I would just like to say that even if you have visited America or lived here for a short period of time, it’s not right to judge ALL Americans on your experience. America’s a big country and there are a lot of different people. Judging Americans by the way they act in say, New York is going to be way off when you star looking at the Americans in say, Texas. That’s like me going to England and basing all of my views on Europeans on just that. England is going to be very different from Scotland and here in America the East Coast is going to be very different from the West Coast, so until you’ve met MOST of the people in ALL of the states I don’t want to hear generalizations about ‘most Americans’. The other things are just bizarre
driving too slow can be deadly. You get on an interstate where traffic is going 80mph and try driving 25 and you’re going to be causing issues. Florida has hourly traffic accident reports on the news, it needs all the help it can get. All the old people go there to die, you see, so the slow driving is a constant problem.
I lived there WAY too long. O_O As a result I’m a fantastic driver! You never know when the tourist in front of you is going to slam on the breaks because they may have missed their exit to Universal Studios. -_-;;

The reason people are so attached to the liberty bell is because it is a symbol of American past and the heritage of the nation. Have you ever heard anyone say “The Liberty Bell is the one and only true bell, there is no other bell like it, and it is our bell, which means it has to be the best bell.”? Well, have you? If not, then stop making such assumptions that Americans feel as such. It is a symbol, much the same as the Statue of Liberty (yes, I know, a gift from France, but a symbol of freedom to Americans nonetheless.), the Declaration of Independence, and so forth and so on. Unless you have heard someone specifically say that our bell is the biggest and the best in the world, silence yourself.
And I’ve lived in Italy and I’ve had Italian pizza. It is fantastic. But everyone has their opinion of deliciousness that they go by. It is a generalized statement (and mostly true) that many Americans like greasy foods (I’m simply basing that off of the fact that, besides the fact that it’s true, but the fact that America has a population that is comprised of over 100,000,000 obese people.). American pizza is generally greasy. Italian pizza is generally not. I say generally, simply because there is this one Pizzeria up in the Dolomiti called “Vecchio” that has some greasy pizza… but anyhoo. So yes, Americans will tell Italians that they have the best pizza. That is simply because many Americans traditionally like greasy food, and American pizza tends to be greasy. Therefore, Americans will tend to like American pizza better. Italians will probably say that their pizza is the best in the world, and every other country will probably say that theirs is even better.
I’ve lived in America for 13 years, and not once have I heard a single person (and I’ve met a LOT of people, in person and online from America) that has ever uttered the words “There are a lot of polar bears in Poland.” Ever. Even the three year olds don’t say that. Whoever said that to you is an idiot. Don’t automatically assume that the other 300,000,000 and some-odd Americans all think that.
I know of a lot of Soccer playing Americans that will tell you that soccer is a lot better than American football. Many even have the decency to call it football. Don’t say that all Americans think soccer is boring and that we all think that American football is the best game ever. It’s not exactly true.
And Michael, you need to see that in every country, and in a good percent of the population of the world, there exists something called “ethnocentrism”. hmm I don’t remember anybody ever saying it was the biggest bell, though it is certainly in a sense historic, and therefore famous. it’s also a well known symbol independence from England and Philadelphia at the time of the Revolutionary War in particular. so yeah, it’s a decent bell.

Actually the U.S has more stupid inhabitants than a lot of other countries. But that’s mainly because of the population size (not entirely though). Being a country so affected by religion is bound to have some dire consequences…such as a decrease of general IQ over time.

Public school system takes away parental rights and all parents just swallow and sit back. Is my country of origin perfect? No. But we do not claim so. From having lived in the US, I did get the “holier than thou” message. It’s figuratively plastered everywhere and comes off as a pretty delusional statement. I don’t recall anyone in Europe claiming they were “Number 1″. That being said, I wouldn’t generalize. And saying I’ve met some smart, educated Americans would come off as condescending, so I’ll just say it’s easy to point a finger at another nation and generalize, but it’s infinitely harder to admit that, in the end, it’s just a different people, comprised of unique individuals.

Some schools have taken away parents rights by giving their children the swine flu vaccine without warning or getting permission. A lot of parents were pissed at one school for having their kids read a book about two male penguins raising a baby penguin together to try to teach tolerance to them while they’re young. In my opinion, children should be taught that some kids will have two mommies or two daddies, because even if you don’t agree with gay marriage, you probably wouldn’t like your child to call another child a newfaq because all the other kids were saying it. I live in America. I lived in Virginia for 13 years, and have lived in North Carolina for 9 years. I have encountered far more ignorant/stupid Americans than smart ones. It is sad, but it is a fact. That’s not to say that most Americans are stupid, but it seems in the towns I lived in, there was a definitely lack of good parenting. I went to the second highest scoring high school in my county, and you wouldn’t not believe the idiocy I encountered. One boy tried to tell me that if he rode around for a week with a dead deer in the bed of his truck, that it wouldn’t start to smell. One girl tried to convince ME that I smoke pot. They teach “abstinence only” sex education. I lost count of how many girls I KNOW that are pregnant, let alone girls I only saw in the hallway. Kids in my town believed that if you smoked some pot you couldn’t get pregnant, that pulling out is a fail-proof method of birth control, that you can’t get pregnant on the first time, and that taking an aspirin and standing on your head for five minutes worked like a birth control pill. There are kids in Florida drinking bleach because someone told them that it prevents pregnancy. There are idiots everywhere, but I think each country has their own special breed of idiots, and ours really have no idea that they are

I had to go over to Nashville from the UK for a week long conference where people from all over the world were involved. The only group of people I didn’t like was some ex Marine and his ex Marine friends. The US army were there also and they were absolutely fine and good to talk to, same too for everyone in the town centre also.

Just an FYI: I’m an American and I speak English, German, French and Spanish. I played soccer and it is better than football. I have to say, Michael, that I completely agree with your statement. I’ve been complaining about this issue since I was about 11. I’m the third generation on both sides of my family that was born in the USA and yet I don’t consider myself to be American. Yeah, I’m a citizen, this is the only country that I’ve lived in, I was born here, but I’d rather think of myself as a human not an American, not a white person, just a human.
I come from a family that is completely brainwashed and of below average intelligence. I have lived in large cities, small cities, small townships, and low-populated farming communities, East Coast, New England, deep South, and Central America. I have seen people from all walks of life that are the exact thing that you have described. This made it easier for me to see what causes these overly confident ignorant fools to become that way. Not only is the public school system in this country inferior to Europe and Asia in 99% of cases, but this leads to people not being able to think for themselves, therefore they become extremely gullible. This doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface about American television programs, I haven’t even got to mention the programs with the flocks of trashy skanky women or douchebag men who will do anything to possibly get on TV and shack up with a washed up celebrity who already had a bad enough reputation. I have also learned the hard way that once these illogical people think something, no amount of factual evidence in the world will stop them from believing it. This is due to a combination of things. First off, they do not have the mental capacity to understand the world outside of their box. Secondly, since they lack the mental capacity to understand right from wrong or fact from fiction, they will always think that they are right. Third, since these people like to think very highly of themselves they will stick to whatever they first decide even if it is wrong, just for the mere sake of saying that they were right and will always be right because to think otherwise would take them off of their high horse.
a comment about haiti. i work with mesron 4. a boat unit. mesron 6 is supposed to relieve us from our current location in a few months. when the earthquake in haiti happened, squad 6 was sent there within 48 hours. think about this. they had an 8 month deployment coming in a few months. they have a few months to be with their families before this 8 month deployment. and suddenly, they have to get everything packed, and get on a plane and be in haiti in under 48 hours, where they remain until they are to be sent to their original scheduled deployment. now the few months they had to spend with their families is gone. none of them are complaining. they are happy to be helping haiti. they are sacrificing time with their families. what really aches me the most, is at the same time that this is happening, i heard remarks being made that ‘the american navy developed a top secret weapon, that caused the earthquake in haiti, testing it for use against iran’. really? so the american navy did this? other countries have enough blatantly arrogant hatred towards america, that they will blame america for a natural disaster. not to mention that while we are there, bringing aid to the country, people who have done nothing, and will do nothing for the people of haiti, are sitting there blaming america for it. its pathetic. truly, people need to stop making remarks like this about america. most of you who say these things have probably never been to america, or have been for a very short time. i have been to other countries outside of the us. i can say that as nice as some places may be, every place has its own issues. i cant tell you how many times ive heard brittish or russian individuals making remarks about all americans being terrorists. such arrogant, stupid remarks. ill be perfectly frank, they have given me a less than favorable opinion of what life outside america is like. i dont even remember the last time i heard someone say ‘bin laden is at fault for this’, or ‘saddam is at fault for this’. no. its america at fault for everything. but like another comment on here said, when you need us most, who is the first one to help you, more often then not it is america. and on that note, alot of what we do gets swept under the table. such as when an oil tanker collided with a cargo ship in the persian gulf. we responded to it before anyone else. we brought water and aid. was our efforts to help those people mentioned. no. of course not. we will continue to do what we can for other countries, and as usual, take blame for everything that goes wrong in this world.

Yeah, because those Irish terrorist have really been giving us hell lately. The one common factor between all the terrorist attacks the country has seen, from 9/11 to the Time square, to the panty bomber, they are all Muslims. I have some Muslim friends, I am no bigot. But when faced with the fact that these actions have all come from one particular group, you have to acknowledge that and act accordingly.
As for Angela’s post, I say “Right on!” Both of my brothers have done multiple tours in Iraq and one is heading for Afghanistan and I know from the things they have told me about their time there that the there are many people in Iraq that are better off because we made the unpopular decision to take a tyrant out. I’m sure saying anything remotely pro war on here will get me heckled but I don’t care. I am proud that my brothers were able to help in that effort and remove that safe haven for people who did and planned to do horrible things.
The fact that there are people out there who would choose to make fun of our soldiers and their families saddens me but I know that my brothers and thousands others like them will continue to fight for their right to make such statements. There are many countries around the world where that wouldn’t be so.

hey nicu. are you helping haiti? are you leaving your family for months to serve your country? are you dodging bullets in afghanistan? when was the last time you deployed for half a year and spent christmas day working 18-20 hours straight, in the middle of the desert, away from your family and friends? and i assume you are referring to us helping the crews of the two ships that collided. let me tell you a story. i was up early that day, on my day off, to take an exam for a qualification. about five minutes after, my chief runs up yelling ‘we need four boat crews now!’. i notice a huge, black smoke coming up from the distance. HUGE cloud of black smoke. without hesitating, i ran and threw on my uniform (since i was currently in my civilian clothes), then went and started carrying boxes of water to the small combat patrol boats. everyone started working to get water, medical supplies, and food to the boats. did we need to go out there to help those people? no. were we asked for help. yes. the local authorities called us to help because they knew we could get to the crew faster than they could, because our fast boats were better equiped. mind you, were working out of a foreign port here. i spent five hours that day, helping to bring aid to the crews of these boats. let me describe the scene to you. this massive oil tanker, had ruptured, with flames rising high out of the deck of the ship, and flames along a pool of spillage. we actualy spent part of the day combing the water to see if their may have been bodies. luckily there werent, everyone on the ship was ok (for the most part). im sure everyone on that crew would have said the same thing about americans. that we are terrorists, that our help isnt needed, that we are stupid, blah blah blah. there is no doubt in my mind that most of the crew on those ships would have hated us for being american. but we helped them anyway. for some odd reason, most every country seems to like to hate americans. they dont have to know americans, they dont have to visit america, they just do it because its ‘the in thing’ i suppose. so you can sit there and talk down on me, because im american, or because im part of the military, or because i helped those people when they ‘didnt ask for our help’, but at the end of the day, what did you do for those people? nothing. because you werent there. you werent in iraq. you werent in afghanistan. you werent helping people in haiti. you werent away from your family. you were at home, or at school, or playing with your friends, or getting drunk at a bar, or doing something that was helping no one but yourself. so its awfuly easy for you to complain about what i do, or what america does, especially since you havent done any of it yourself. you dont understand why america does it, because you have done nothing. you just sit and throw blame about something that has nothing to do with you. so let me guess. im at fault because we help people that dont want our help. im at fault for haiti. im at fault for september 11th (the government did it, right? not the terrorist guy who hates america! lol). let me tell you something, as an american, as a member of the military, americans are not stupid. they are not all fat. they dont think that they are better than every other country. they are not all lazy. if you want to sound arrogant and judge americans, then come and live in america, serve the military for a few years, visit the site of 9/11, and try to discover for yourself what it is to be american. you really have no understanding of us. or why we help people even when they dont ask for our help

by the way tabetha, i wrote my comment as a general response, but i completely agree with your comment. as someone in the us military, i have seen for myself how much america does for other countries. americans in the military spend countless months away from home, doing so much that goes without notice. we provide food and supplies to countries in need. we build schools and hospitals. every bullet is accounted for, and everytime a round is fired it too must be accounted for. its not the trigger happy environment people believe it is. it amazes me that there are americans as young as 17, who volunteer to join the military, go to places like iraq and afghanistan, and risk everything doing what they believe is right. and while they are doing so, there are middle aged men and women in other countries, business men and women, people who work cushy jobs and have a warm bed to sleep in every night, talking down on the american military and its soldiers, calling them the bad guys, complaining about what they are doing. all i can think is, how ungrateful, disrespectful, and cowardly these individuals are. they blast american for deciding whats ‘right for iraqis’. but what are any of these individuals doing to make a difference in the world? who are they to talk down on a young american, who leaves his family and risks his life? many of these troops, and sailors as well, come home to thier families in caskets, or with brain injuries, or missing limbs, having sacraficed so much (or everything), and these spoiled cowards who do nothing, want to sit and talk down on them. its terrible. absolutely terrible. these people really need to do some soul searching. they need to sit and think about whether or not they themselves would have the guts to do what these sailors and soldiers are doing. i spend many months away from my family, my friends, and my beautiful girlfriend, willing to make any sacrifice, to do what i feel is right for my country and for other countries. as someone who intends to spend a full career in the military, i realize i will miss out on countless months with my loved ones. i will miss out on many more christmas holidays, birthdays, ect. and worse case scenario, i may end up not coming home at all. and to think that i am called the bad guy, or that what i do is not only not appreciated, but in fact something i am hated for, by people who really dont understand what i do, or what other americans who wear the uniform do, is truly disheartening. its a slap in the face. for any american soldier, sailor, or that of any other nation fighting in the current war, or doing humanitarian missions worldwide that often goes unseen, for all their sacrifices and selfless services to be unapreciated by those who do nothing but serve themselves, it is a massive slap in the face. shame on you. from the bottom of my heart, with every day i spend away from my family, shame on you for what you say about these brave individuals. shame on you for seeing us as the bad guys, and not the ones who flew airplanes into the trade centers, or the outlaw dictator of iraq who ruled his people with an iron fist. i highly suggest those people writing these comments about america, go to a local recruiter, join the military (regardless of what country you are from), and experience what life is like from a military perspective. experience the months away from home, along with all the other sacrifices that come with military life. then maybe you will have a greater appreciation for it, rather than acting like spoiled kids.
Aaron–There are a lot of us Americans out there who appreciate what you do. My brother was a Marine and fought in Desert Storm. I have some good friends that are officers in the Army and almost went to OCS myself, but then felt that at this point in my life, I could do more good as a civilian. Whether that changes in the near future, I don’t know. But do know that there are people in the US that appreciate the sacrifices you guys make and are proud of you.

I’d have to do the research on that offer, but i’m quite sure there were at least three factors in play there:
1) There was already a US aircraft carrier in place or on its way to be a floating rescue center. Because of how NO is situated on the gulf, getting a bunch of other people and boats in there does little more than clog the water. When did the Europeans show up and what kind of help were they able to offer?
2) As in Haiti, the problem was not the amount of willing help available, but the lack of ability to get that help anywhere inland. NO was/is not Venice. It might have been full of water, but getting around there was impossible in many cases.
3) We didn’t ‘sit back and do nothing’. Was there a shortage of quick response? Surely. But New Orleans had three days of notice, and the people who got out were fine. There was no reason to expect hundreds or thousands of people would just sit around waiting to be flooded, and then sit around waiting to get rescued, and then shoot at their rescuers. NO had a huge population of people who were dependent on the government for every important thing in their lives. When the government didn’t jump in and save them, they didn’t bother trying to swim for themselves. The Christians say, ‘God helps those who help themselves’… if you are not willing to help yourself, why should other people be forced by the government to help you?

For the most part, it’s because many believe that America was founded on and has flourished because of capitalism. Socializing health care, forcing people to give up their time and money to help others is not what many believe is the ‘American way’. Americans tend to believe that the government should allow free people to live their lives as they see fit, and as a result, they will prosper and willingly give their excess time and money to help others. The ‘Obama plan’ (which, btw, has never been written down or expanded beyond simple platitudes) or the current plans that have passed thru the senate and the house, have NOTHING to do with healthcare, and everything to do with those politicians retaining power. Medicare is already in the toilet waiting to be flushed, and the plans seen thus far seek to cut funding ($500 million) and add more people (otherwise uninsured) to the MC system. Every piece of the plan is designed to allow someone to use it in their next election: “vote for my opponent and he’ll take away your healthcare”, “I got our state an exemption from that tax”, “because of my work, hundreds of our union employees are won’t be burdened with that tax increase.” By taking out this and that piece of the tax base, the rest of the population will see an increase in their taxes. At this point in the economy, raising taxes is about the last thing anyone wants to see (except for politicians who feel they haven’t spent enough of our grandchildren’s money yet).
If they wanted to insure everyone, their plans wouldn’t leave about 13 million uninsured. If they wanted to fix medicare, they wouldn’t be taking $500 million from it. If they wanted to allow people a choice in their health care options, they wouldn’t be making current plans illegal (like the HSAs that T.Kennedy spent so long working for). There is precious little in the plans as they currently stand that fix existing problems, and quite a lot that create whole new problems.

It kinda comes down to a simple remembrance of history…and the knowledge that opinions and concepts can be ingrained from the very beginning. Europe in general operated under hundreds of years of top-down government. Kings, dictators, emperors and others kept a wide berth between the controlling class and the general population. America was originally conceived without that built-in separation. America was also originally conceived as a communal place where everyone was equal. Within a few months, they realized that communism creates apathy, and they moved to a capitalism system. With the ability to produce and live to the maximum of their capability, the early Americans forged what became the basis of their independence and our constitution. Just as the English king could not conceive of the realities in America and was literally very distant from the situation, many Americans are starting to believe that Washington DC is just as deaf and distant. They feel that the current crop of politicians are not representing them, and many of them are starting to rebel. Whether or not we see a revolution like we saw in 1994, or one like we saw in late 1700s, or even one like we saw in the 1860s…. I cannot say.
Is there room in America for socialism and socialist programs? Sure. The military, infrastructure concerns, police and fire, even some health and retirement concerns. But the current options that have been put forth want to remove all the private pieces and replace them (or eventually cause their replacement) with publicly funded versions.

Most Americans are rational, observant, respectful people who don’t like to stir the pot. I frequently travel to Europe, where quite a lot of people speak English and seem excited to get a chance to do so. I used to tell people I was an American, but stopped when I got a lot of crap for it, or people stopped speaking English and walked away.
Italian food, REAL Italian food, like from Italy, blows the doors off of a lot of American food, especially when it’s made with fresh ingredients, American football is boring as hell except for the last quarter, and American cars suck, especially since they deny they manufactured for the Nazi war machine. I have had Italian pizza, and for my tastes, Dominos pizza is better (and really, it’s gross compared to others i’ve had). Papa John’s is heavenly as far as delivery goes. It’s all about taste and what you like. So, yeah, I’m an American, and I like American Pizza over Italian Pizza. I also like Chinese buffets over REAL chinese food. I’ve had both and well…. REAL Chinese food is foreign, strange, and sometimes gross, but you see, that’s why I LOVE America. I’m allowed to eat what i want to eat, do what i want to do, live where i want to live, and open up a can of some wholesale whoop-ass on any country that even considers threatening our way of life.

This entire argument was blown out of proportion because someone made a couple of stereotypes against blondes and Americans. That was a joke, there is some validity to it but the entire point of stereotypes, as you should know, is that they are not the rule i.e. not all blondes are stupid and not all Americans are stupid.
These stereotypes only point out the extremities of a certain group that tend to stick out the most. I’m sure there are some moronic Asian people out there, but as far as I’ve seen they tend to be very studious and quite intelligent, most likely based on the culture (high demands from parents). That is a stereotype but it has quite a bit of validity to it. You don’t see nearly as many studious Americans as there are Asians (and this can be statistically proven, I just don’t want to), even though there are certainly some studious Americans.
The reasons stereotypes even exist is because they are comparing different ethnic backgrounds to each other and seeing which of them have a higher ratio of a certain type of person than the other. Let’s talk about how we dragged our heels to help out, then forced the UK to ceceede land and claims within the commonwealth before we would do so. Let’s talk about how America would not have become the new world superpower if it wasn’t for WW2. When Europe was skint in the 50s, we in the the US was living it up and hastily becoming the big boy on the block.

Actually, it was WWI in which we didn’t come in until three years after the war started. And we send plenty of aid and supplies to UK and France before then. Way to be ignorant ^_^ And the only reason we got the glory we did was because we supplied thousands of fresh troops and equipment, and a massive morale boost. So really America provided a massive helping hand to the British and the French. But that was WWI.
And in World War 2, we pretty much did “save yo ass”…a few times. If it weren’t for America, Italy would be speaking German…and I do believe it was America that liberated a number of concentration camps….
And technically we were a large power well before WWI and WWII…and the term “superpower” didn’t come into play until the Cold War. And really we became a “superpower” because of the Cold War, not WWII. Which means, technically, that all of the countries that are superpowers have been superpowers for the same amount of time…

And I’m aware Canada was in the war from the beginning. It’s because Canada is a British Commonwealth and so provides Britain with troops in times of war. Same with Australia and New Zealand.

Saw the list, and noticed that my country (Norway) had the highest percentage per person. Although we are a very small country (Populary believed to be the capitol of Sweden) only ranging in at around 4.8 million people. This however would be cheating since we have the highest score on the HDI index giving our citizens more to give. 1776 the bell was rang to call the people on Pennsylvania to Independence Hall where they would hear the first reading of the Declaration of Independence (From Britain). Also, after the civil war the Bell was looked upon as a symbol unity between to North and the South. This is what took the power of law out of the hands of William Penn (and his posse) and put it in the hands of the Assembly (aka English monarchy). The bell was not rung in 1776 because of work being performed on the steeple of Independence Hall. Bells did in fact ring all over the colonies as the declaration was read aloud for all to hear, which was on July 8.
July 4 is the day the Continental Congress publicly voted on whether to deliver the Declaration to the King, which in fact was the actual second vote. The first vote was on July 2, but was by secret ballot so that noboby would fear reprecussions should he be in the minority.

You have no idea what was invented where. The phone and TV are Scottish inventions. (NB: Scotland is part of the UK / Great Britain.) The computer was largely invented in Britain during WW2.
The telephone was invented by a Scot, Alexander Graham Bell.

But do you really think that if Hitler had won WW2, he would have wasted his time burying other European languages and insisting everyone speak German all the time? Yes, German would probably be taught in all schools in defeated countries and would be the most influential language. But I’m sure the natives would still speak their own languages!
After all, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Czechoslovakia were all taken by Hitler during the actual war, but I’m not aware of any moves to supplant the native languages spoken in those countries at the time. Italy was allied to Germany, and subsequently partly occupied, but this didn’t for a second lead any Italians to entertain abandoning their own language and speaking only German.
So can we have an end to this “you’d be speaking German” nonsense please? Thanks.
Oh and by the way: it was we British who captured the first Enigma machines as well as managing to break the code. That film U-571 is a *total lie*. Hollywood rewriting history like this insults the memory of the British military forces who suffered heavy losses to make the capture of the Enigma machine possible – as much as it does the American forces who fought alongside them and who would have wanted their comrades to be respected.

Why all the hating? There isnt a perfect country in the world -the UK and US are both far from perfect. Example: In the US you have the right to defend your home by any means necessary – whereas in the UK you’d be arrested for that! But then, in the US you can legally obtain, own and hold a gun without too much hassle – not good. In the US you have access to better drugs and medical treatment than in the UK (NHS), but you also have huge bills to accompany it and those with low incomes suffer.
I have met some people here in the UK who love this country, and are in your face – but I’ve met plenty of Americans like that too. I’ve also met Americans who really are pissed off with their country – guess what -same here!! It’s about evens by anyone’s scale -rule number one -never rely on tv personailties / reality shows to show you ‘reality’ because it’s not reality. Let’s face it, if we were to be represented by the freaks of the big brother house we’d look total idiots, right?!!

My God. So, to keep this epic flame war going, I would like to throw in a comment. America is the worst country in the world. These bastards invade countries, acting like they’re liberators, set up some puppet government under their control, and siphon off resources to their own bloated economy while other people starve to death.
Ok…so, this is awesome first of all because it’s so typical of the youth of today to think that money just magically appears (thanks mom and dad for never saying “no” when the kids threw tantrums in the toy store). Also, these arguments back and forth are also awesome. I have met some Americans who were total brainless twits who probably had to walk around thinking “breath in, breath out” just to stay alive. I have also met a lot of British people who fall into the same category, and Australians, and I live in Canada so I can say with certainty that there are a lot of them here as well. I don’t think the problem of mouth-breathers is exclusive to the US, I think it’s a wide spread epidemic that does not adhere to boundaries that only exist on a map (or heavily guarded boarder crossings).
